Position Overview
As part of an alliance agreement, Kiewit Nuclear Canada has been awarded a contract to support the construction of Canada’s first Small Modular Reactor (SMR) on the SMR-X Project.
As a Chemical Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring proper cleanliness, passivation, and preservation of assigned MPLs during the construction and commissioning phases. You will also support teams on all chemistry-related aspects, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Location
The position will be based on our project in Darlington, ON. The successful candidate will be local to Darlington, Oshawa or surrounding areas, or willing to relocate.
Responsibilities
-Define, plan, and execute chemical preservation and treatment measures for assigned systems (MPLs) during construction and commissioning, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule compliance.
-Establish the list of authorized chemical products for DNNP1 in collaboration with the future operator, and coordinate with Procurement to communicate requirements to subcontractors.
-Develop and manage the process for requesting approval of new chemical products.
-Supervise construction activities to ensure compliance with cleanliness, passivation, and preservation specifications.
-Prepare and support system flushing and cleaning activities, and ensure preservation through commissioning.
-Assist commissioning teams with chemical aspects of system startup and consumables.
-Execute chemical commissioning activities (e.g., skid injections) per test instructions and schedule.
-Monitor plant conditions and ensure adherence to configuration and status control processes.
-Report deficiencies and conduct pre- and post-job briefs for commissioning activities.
-Ensure compliance with all project procedures and requirements.
Qualifications
-Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or equivalent professional qualification.
-Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
-Experience as a chemical engineer working on process systems and equipment in large-scale nuclear or non-nuclear new build projects.
-Relevant training and experience in commissioning chemical systems and equipment, including nuclear safety and plant operations.
-Solid understanding of industry standards, procedures, and methods related to commissioning, with a strong grasp of underlying principles.
-Proven ability to manage and prioritize workload across multiple stakeholders and competing demands.
-Ability to uphold minimum standards and challenge others when necessary, even under pressure.
