Position Overview

As a Software Engineer at Kiewit, you will design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software solutions that support business operations across the organization. You will work independently on moderately complex initiatives while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality applications. This role requires strong technical skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to contribute throughout the software development lifecycle.

Location

This is a full time in office role on our LaVista, NE campus; or a flexible work environment role for candidates residing in the Lenexa, KS area - with expectations to report in office as required. 

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software applications, services, and integrations.
  • Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, quality assurance engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to deliver business solutions.
  • Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into scalable, maintainable software solutions.
  • Implement new features, enhancements, defect fixes, and system improvements across applications and platforms.
  • Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to solution planning and architecture decisions.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide feedback that supports code quality, maintainability, and team development.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application, integration, and production support issues.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests and contribute to continuous integration, continuous delivery, and DevOps practices.
  • Follow established coding standards, security requirements, governance processes, and software development lifecycle practices.
  • Use approved AI-assisted development tools and engineering practices to improve productivity, code quality, learning, and problem-solving while validating outputs and maintaining accountability for delivered solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and knowledge-sharing materials.
  • Participate in Agile delivery activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers as appropriate.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two or more years of professional software development experience.
  • Experience designing, developing, testing, and supporting software applications.
  • Experience with at least one modern programming language and application development framework.
  • Experience with source control systems and collaborative development practices.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle methodologies, including Agile practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with one or more technologies such as C#/.NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Angular, Node.js, or Python.
  • Experience building and consuming REST APIs, web services, or application integrations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools in a professional software engineering environment. #LI-AK1
