Position Overview

As a Field Engineer 3 in Kiewit’s Foundations District, you will lead and oversee daily field engineering activities on complex geotechnical and deep foundation projects. You’ll provide technical guidance to field teams, ensure compliance with engineering standards, and optimize construction operations for safety, quality, and profitability. This role also includes mentoring junior engineers and coordinating closely with Superintendents and Project Managers.

Responsibilities

Field Engineering:

  • Lead execution of deep foundation systems including drilled shafts, micropiles, helical piles, tiebacks, ground anchors, auger cast piles, driven piles, jet grouting, soil nails, vibro-compaction, stone columns, slurry walls, and secant pile walls.
  • Conduct field assessments to optimize construction operations and improve profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with contract specifications, geotechnical design criteria, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with Superintendents to align engineering support with construction sequencing and priorities.
  • Provide technical guidance to field teams and subcontractors during installation and testing.
  • Mentor and manage junior field engineers, assigning tasks and reviewing performance.

Office Engineering:

  • Support project planning, scheduling, and progress tracking.
  • Review and manage construction documentation including RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
  • Assist with QA/QC documentation and geotechnical instrumentation monitoring.
  • Interface with vendors, subcontractors, and design teams to ensure technical alignment.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to strategic execution planning.

Estimating:

  • Provide technical input during bid development and constructability reviews.
  • Analyze geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications to support accurate cost estimates.
  • Evaluate subcontractor proposals and assist in scope definition and risk assessment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • 5+ years of experience in geotechnical construction or deep foundation systems.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Proficient in construction software (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore, Primavera).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical instrumentation, testing procedures, and ground improvement techniques.
