Location
This position is based out of our Oakville, Ontario location, with flexibility for travel to and from the US and Canada.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will apply RAMS processes, and appropriate methods and techniques within projects according to client requirements; applicable Rules, Regulations, and Standards; support the compliance of RAMS processes; gathering and/or establishing RAMS requirements for designs and supporting interface management activities; perform design verifications / studies to confirm RAMS requirements conformance.
Additional areas the candidate will be exposed to and may support include:
- Reviewing and understanding contractual performance RAMS and security requirements.
- Performing reliability prediction modelling of infrastructure and interfacing systems and apportioning RAMS requirements to lower subsystem levels accordingly through the application of various techniques, such as Reliability Block Diagram and Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis.
- Performing independent 'peer review’ reliability calculations and maintenance calculations to verify product design.
- Defining maintenance LRU strategy to ensure design reliability and optimize maintenance costs.
- Reviewing suppliers' RAMS documentation and addressing non-compliances with the support of the project team.
- Developing RAMS demonstration plans, and FRACAS plans and procedures in cooperation with Project Management and the field teams.
- Ensure that Systems Assurance/RAMS processes are being followed throughout the project lifecycle by all involved stakeholders.
- Perform various analyses as described in the EN50126 V-Cycle model, Canadian Method of Risk Evaluation and Assessment or as aligned to MIL-STD-882.
- Developing, reviewing, or otherwise supporting Threat and Vulnerability Assessment process. Assisting to derive project security requirements that mitigate vulnerabilities through the design development process and contributing to the authorship of Security Related deliverables according to program needs.
- Developing, reviewing, or otherwise supporting the maturation of a project Integrated Hazard Log. Assisting to derive project safety requirements that mitigate hazards through the design development process and contributing to the authorship of Safety Related Deliverables according to program needs.
- Supporting the development of the Engineering Safety Assurance Case or similar supporting documents to articulate the appropriate program elements have been applied from a RAMS and security perspective.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- P.Eng. in Ontario or British Columbia or PE in US States Preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years working in a Systems Engineering/Systems Assurance/RAMS environment with preference to those with rail transit experience and familiarity with the application of CENELEC standards.
- Experience in the Systems Engineering lifecycle is an asset, including typical tools for development of requirements (for example, DOORS)
- Proficiency in common industry software platforms
- Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to regularly report to corporate and / or project site office.
- Travel as needed to and from Canada and U.S.
OTHER SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS
- The individual must be inquisitive and willing to learn about a wide variety of rail systems requirements as part of the team.
- The candidate should have a technical basis in engineering (from academics and work experience, ideally with professional consulting work experience) and have technical written and oral communication skills as the role will frequently involve collaboration with clients, contractors, and other engineering firms in an Infrastructure Project advisory and/or delivery environment.
- The individual will be required to plan, organize, and coordinate work with groups of professionals and technicians.
- Past experience with direct client interface and complete project life cycle (design to commissioning) is an asset. #LI-MD1
