Responsibilities
- Lead all construction phases in full compliance with project procedures, strict quality standards, safety protocols, and approved operational processes.
- Provide oversight and guidance to Project Coordinators to ensure robust development and execution of Work Packages, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and essential construction documentation, guaranteeing inspection schedules and quality records are thoroughly maintained and closed out.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of project scope, technical specifications, construction sequencing, and execution strategy to optimize project delivery.
- Supervise comprehensive mechanical and industrial construction activities, including but not limited to equipment installation, piping systems, support structures, and structural components.
- Strategically plan labor allocation, equipment deployment, and resource management to enhance safe and effective field execution.
- Collaborate actively in project scheduling processes, including construction sequencing, milestone tracking, and resource forecasting.
- Identify and analyze potential risks, constraints, and interface challenges early, implementing proactive mitigation strategies.
- Direct and coordinate efforts of superintendents, supervisors, subcontractors, tradespeople, and project teams to ensure timely, compliant, and efficient completion of field activities.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary coordination involving engineering, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, commissioning, and other disciplines to manage interfaces and constructability considerations.
- Monitor construction progress metrics such as productivity, cost, and schedule adherence, initiating corrective actions when necessary to maintain alignment with project goals.
- Champion a safety-first culture, enforcing comprehensive health and safety requirements across all construction operations.
- Coordinate effectively across engineering, procurement, project controls, quality assurance, commissioning, labour relations, and safety teams ensuring integrated project execution.
- Oversee procurement and subcontractor management to support uninterrupted construction workflows and adherence to project timelines.
- Assess and ensure field installation quality meets or exceeds project specifications, approved procedures, and construction standards.
- Provide decisive leadership in resolving complex technical challenges, constructability issues, quality concerns, and field execution anomalies in partnership with project stakeholders.
- Maintain and nurture positive stakeholder relationships, including clients, joint venture partners, consultants, subcontractors, and union representatives, fostering a collaborative project environment.
- Manage project financials within delegated authority, including approval of expenditures and proposal pricing.
- Regularly report on project performance, workforce capacity, construction progress, risks, and opportunities to senior management, facilitating informed decision-making.
Qualifications
- 10 to 15 years of progressive construction experience with proven expertise in managing self-performed work, subcontractor coordination, extensive procurement, and design interface within large-scale projects.
- A minimum of 10 years managing complex, high-value energy infrastructure construction projects, demonstrating leadership in dynamic, multidisciplinary environments.
- Experience in a self-performing construction environment with direct oversight of hands-on technical field activities.
- Proven track record managing design-build projects that require integrated management of design and construction phases.
- Solid understanding of construction methodologies, operational protocols, and field project management best practices derived from hands-on experience.
- Exceptional leadership abilities with a focus on team development, motivation, and performance management.
- Professionalism in engaging with diverse internal and external stakeholders with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Advanced skills in project controls, scheduling, budgeting, and formal presentation, enabling clear and persuasive communication of project status and issues.
