Position Overview

Join our dynamic team as a Mechanical Equipment Estimator based in Oakville, Ontario. This role is crucial in driving our success by delivering precise and competitive cost estimates that directly impact project execution in the industrial sector. You will leverage your extensive experience in mechanical equipment and industrial construction estimating to support major projects, including outage planning and maintenance shutdowns, thereby contributing to our operational excellence and client satisfaction.

Location

Primarily in-office role located in Oakville, ON. Candidates are expected to work on-site, with flexibility for up to two work-from-home days per week, subject to district and project requirements

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive and precise cost estimates for mechanical equipment installation within industrial construction projects.
  • Thoroughly review and interpret project documentation including drawings, specifications, and bid documents to identify scope and estimating needs.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and prepare cost components encompassing labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor services.
  • Analyze project risks, assumptions, and optimize pricing methodologies to enhance bid competitiveness.
  • Engage with vendors and subcontractors to solicit, assess, and incorporate quality quotations into estimates.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including project management, engineering, procurement, and construction to align estimates with operational plans.
  • Contribute to planning and estimating activities for industrial outages, turnarounds, and planned shutdowns, ensuring accuracy and feasibility.
  • Maintain and update cost databases and industry benchmarks to support continuous improvement in estimating practices.
  • Participate in estimate reviews, value engineering, and post-bid analyses to refine project delivery and cost management.

Qualifications

  • Possess 8 to 15 years of progressive estimating experience specifically within industrial construction, heavy industrial, power, oil & gas, manufacturing, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated expertise in preparing detailed construction estimates for mechanical equipment installation projects, evidencing a deep understanding of construction techniques and labor productivity.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, project specifications, and contractual documents accurately.
  • Excellent organizational and communication capabilities to effectively coordinate among teams and convey estimation outcomes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with estimating software, particularly InEight Estimate, enhancing efficiency and precision in estimate preparation.
  • Experience in outage planning, turnarounds, or maintenance shutdown projects within industrial environments, providing critical support to project planning.
  • Previous engagement supporting EPC contractors, industrial maintenance, or capital projects, delivering estimates that align with project goals and timelines.
  • Educational background with a degree, diploma, or technical certification in Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Technology, or a related discipline is highly preferred.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain the applicable security clearance required for project assignments.

 

Base Compensation: $100,000/yr - $150,000/yr
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
