Location

This position is based in Oakville, Ontario. Flexible work arrangements may be available. Occasional travel to project sites and client offices may be required.

Responsibilities

As the Lead HVAC Estimator, you will be responsible for spearheading the full estimating lifecycle, delivering precise and competitive HVAC cost assessments tailored to complex project requirements and industry standards. Your duties will include:

  • Interpreting Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to develop comprehensive estimating plans aligned with client expectations and project scopes.
  • Conducting detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analyses covering HVAC systems, civil works, underground utilities, environmental controls, and related infrastructure components.
  • Formulating direct cost estimates encompassing labor, materials, equipment rentals, subcontractor bids, and self-perform activities, ensuring accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
  • Evaluating labor productivity metrics and optimizing crew configurations across diverse operational environments, such as unionized, open shop, and prevailing wage contexts.
  • Crafting and reviewing pricing deliverables, including bid forms, proposals, and contract documentation, to support robust and compliant submissions.
  • Becoming a proficient user and advocate of InEight Estimating software and allied digital estimating tools, enhancing workflow efficiency and data accuracy.
  • Managing subcontractor and vendor bid solicitations, bid evaluation, and price leveling to maintain competitiveness and comprehensive scope coverage.
  • Collaborating closely with cross-functional project teams to integrate construction methodologies and execution strategies into estimates, underpinning successful project delivery.
  • Participating actively in risk assessments, estimate reviews, client presentations, and strategic discussions to align estimating efforts with business objectives.
  • Driving continuous improvement through data-driven historical cost analysis, lessons learned integration, and refinement of estimating protocols.
  • Mentoring junior estimators to cultivate technical proficiency, adherence to standards, and professional development.
  • Supporting transition processes at project initiation, including estimate turnover, cost baseline alignment, and coordination with project controls, operations, and commercial teams.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation and demonstrated expertise in construction estimation and project management within heavy construction contexts, particularly emphasizing HVAC systems. Required qualifications include:

  • A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience substantiating capability in complex estimating roles.
  • At least eight years of progressive experience in estimating for heavy construction projects, with a focus on HVAC, infrastructure, or industrial sectors.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and strong organizational abilities essential for managing multiple complex estimates concurrently.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English, facilitating clear interaction with clients, team members, and vendors.
  • Advanced command of Microsoft Excel and experience with industry-standard estimating software, preferably InEight Estimating, to support precise and efficient estimate development.
  • Capability and willingness to obtain security and operational clearances required by Ontario Power Generation and related entities.
  • A proactive approach to professional growth, collaboration, and mentorship, fostering a positive and high-performing team environment.

 

Base Compensation: $120,000/yr - $160,000/yr
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
