Position Overview
As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will report directly to the Supplier Quality Manager and will support the execution and continuous improvement of KNS’s Supplier Quality and Quality Assurance Programs. You will be responsible for evaluating KNS’s supplier base, performing supplier surveillance activities and audits, and ensuring that procured items and services meet applicable regulatory, code, and contractual requirements, including 10CFR 50 Appendix B, ASME Section III, NQA-1, and DOE O 414.1D. You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Project Quality to drive supplier performance and support Commercial Grade Dedication activities.

Location
Lenexa, KS or Oak Ridge, TN. This position may require periodic travel (up to 50%) to supplier facilities and project sites. This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate KNS’s supplier base for quality, performance, and compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. Support the management of KNS’s Nuclear Approved Vendor List.
- Plan, perform, and document supplier audits, surveillances, and source inspections.
- Review and evaluate supplier quality programs, quality plans, ITPs, and objective quality evidence (OQE) for compliance with 10CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA-1, ASME Section III, and DOE O 414.1D requirements.
- Support and/or execute Commercial Grade Dedication (CGD) activities including technical evaluations, critical characteristic identification, acceptance method planning, and verification activities.
- Monitor supplier performance metrics, identify trends and emerging risks, and support development and implementation of supplier improvement actions.
- Support internal audits and assessments, including preparation, execution, reporting, and follow-up of corrective actions.
- Participate in and support the Corrective Action Program (CAP) and Nonconformance (NCR) processes, including causal analysis and verification of corrective action effectiveness.
- Create Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR) and evaluate supplier corrective action responses to SCARs and audit findings.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Project Quality to define quality requirements and ensure they are flowed down to suppliers.
- Maintain quality records and supplier documentation in accordance with KNS and regulatory requirements.
- Provide quality-related training, mentoring, and communication to project staff and promote a strong culture of Quality, safety, ethics, and integrity.
- Support Kiewit’s “Get Work” bid evaluations and proposals.

Qualifications
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline; and 3+ years of Quality Assurance, Supplier Quality, or Quality Engineering experience in nuclear, DOE, manufacturing, or construction environments supporting safety-related or quality-affecting work.
In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 7 years of combined relevant education and experience in nuclear QA/QC or supplier quality experience will be considered.
Technical & Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of 10CFR 50 Appendix B, ASME Sections III and IX, NQA-1, DOE O 414.1D, NRC Regulatory Guides, and the implementation of Commercial Grade Dedication for materials, equipment, and services.
Certifications: NQA-1 Lead Auditor certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
Preferred Experience & Attributes: Experience with supplier quality oversight for utilities, NSSS suppliers, component manufacturers, or DOE contractors; strong causal analysis and problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment; strong communication, organization, and documentation skills; and a proven commitment to safety, ethics, and integrity.
