Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Design Engineering Manager to support our expanding nuclear engineering team, which provides engineering and design services to the commercial nuclear and DOE space. As a Design Engineering Manager, you will oversee the planning, coordination, and delivery of engineering work for projects in the nuclear market. The Design Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing the engineering of EPC (Engineer, Procure, Construct) and design-build projects, as well as manage project pursuit estimates when required.
This position requires an experienced professional capable of balancing multiple competing priorities, either on single larger projects or across several smaller projects. These priorities include, but are not limited to managing client expectations, maintaining positive and engaging client communication, managing multi-discipline engineering teams to meet project scope, budget, and schedule requirements, and communicate project status to senior management. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of technical leadership, project execution, and cross discipline coordination. You’ll work closely with engineering staff, designers, and sub consultants to ensure that projects are executed efficiently, meet client expectations, and align with overall program goals.

Location
This position is based out of the Lenexa, KS or Oak Ridge, TN office, with the ability to travel up to 25% to client and project locations as needed. Opportunities for flexible work may be available.
Responsibilities
Project Management:
- Overall management of the project engineering and design team.
- Direct the development and execute the project execution plan related to quality, deliverables, schedule, budget, staffing, project risks, and change management.
- Monitor and report project progress against the execution plan using established project controls system, take appropriate corrective action if progress falls behind the plan.
- Communicate project status to senior management, such as providing regular weekly reports, monthly reports, and presentations as required.
- Schedule and lead project team meetings.
- Identify, evaluate, and document risks inherent that could impact the project success.
- Monitor, control, and report project expenditures against the budget.
- Work within a matrix environment to communicate and coordinate engineering and design resource needs.
- Lead the engineering portion of project pursuit/proposal phase by developing technical scope, project schedule and engineering cost estimate.
- Provide technical expertise.
Client Engagement:
- Seek ways to achieve the highest customer satisfaction.
- Engage with clients to fully understand their vision and business objectives to ensure their implementation through the design.
- Coordinate discussions on project design and performance status with Clients.
- Develop future opportunities during project execution by making the Client a raving fan of Kiewit.

Qualifications
- Bachelors or Master’s degree in a related technical field with 15 or more years of progressively complex experience in managing multidiscipline projects relevant to the nuclear market.
- Five or more years’ experience performing engineering-related design within the nuclear markets, preferred
- PE license is highly desirable.
- Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills required to enable an effective interface with internal and external customers.
- Ability to manage projects and lead a team to execute work in a complex environment.
- Must be self-motivated, results oriented and must constantly coach others in order to develop team members.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
- Must be able to travel at the demands of the clients and project demands. A flexible schedule is essential.
