Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an opening for a dynamic experienced Drainage Designer in our growing Design Engineering Services Group. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes drainage, structural, geotechnical, civil, roadway, rail, and materials disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects.

District Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design-Build team is driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects.  Through our integrated design and construction approach, our multi-disciplinary team works together to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk.  Our construction-focused engineers work collaboratively with our estimators and builders to design solutions that are innovative, constructible, and designed with a focus on safety.   Clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. This position will be based out of Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers Lone Tree, CO (South Denver) office. 


The candidate will be part of a design team responsible for completing engineering assignments in support of heavy civil construction for Kiewit Construction Companies’ business including drainage design, preparation of design plans, and technical reports. Key responsibilities include the following:

•    In office work primarily
•    Work with engineering team in developing preliminary and final design plans and details
•    Participate in design reviews to evaluate design concepts and make recommendations
•    Use MicroStation, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, OpenRoads Designer, Civil3D, and other civil engineering design software
•    Produce documents with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
•    Assist CAD Manger in implementation of DOT workspace configurations, conform with DOT CAD standards
•    Participate and assist with the development of team software training materials
•    Development of drainage plans, profiles, specifications and estimates for transportation and other water resources projects


•    Associates degree in computer-aided design, 3D modeling, drafting, survey or similar program experience
•    4+ years’ experience in CAD and plan set production of drainage, highway, and civil design projects
•    Proficient in AutoCAD and MicroStation (2D & 3D) 
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) 
•    Experience with Civil 3D, Bentley InRoads, Revit is an advantage
•    Experience of ArcGIS and surface generation is an advantage
•    Design experience on Design-Build projects is an advantage
•    General knowledge of engineering principles and materials for civil engineering work with the ability to comprehend civil engineering drawings
•    Critical thinking skills necessary with the ability to plan and conceptualize
•    Capable of recognizing discrepancies with strong attention to detail
•    Critical thinking skills necessary with the ability to plan ahead and conceptualize
•    The ability to clearly communicate and collaborate with team members

Additional Requirements:

Base Compensation: $58,378  - $87,566 
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
