Position Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an opening for a dynamic experienced Civil Designer in our growing Digital Delivery and Civil Production group. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes roadway, drainage, utilities, structural, geotechnical, rail, and is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects throughout the country.

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design Build Management team are driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects to manage their multi-disciplined design teams to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk. Our construction-driven engineers analyze root causes and resolve design issues before they impact schedule and budget. Particularly on large design-build projects, clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. Location
This position will be based out of Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers Lone Tree, CO (South Denver) office.
Responsibilities
The candidate will be part of a design team responsible for delivering engineering solutions, which include the preparation of detailed plans and technical reports, that support heavy civil construction projects for Kiewit Construction Companies. This includes roadway, drainage, and with an emphasis on utility design. Key responsibilities include:
- Perform primarily in-office work supporting utility and civil infrastructure projects.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to develop preliminary and final design plans for roadway, drainage, and utility systems.
- Work with a team of utility designers to develop and define system design requirements for the various CAD and design tools used in utility design.
- Navigate ProjectWise and/or Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) to retrieve designer CAD files, verify accuracy against plan PDFs, and perform calculations such as additional survey points for field crew layout.
- Support the Survey Manager by performing design and layout calculations and ensuring that the most current plans and digital design files are issued, maintained, and used (including QC’d design files).
- Train and mentor rotational employees within the surveying department, providing guidance on CAD standards, workflows, and utility design processes.
- Identify gaps between existing Kiewit tools and project design requirements, and develop actionable plans to close those gaps through improved workflows, tools, or training.
- Maintain accurate digital records for utility locations, potholing activities, and as-built documentation.
- Participate in design reviews to evaluate engineering concepts, identify constructability concerns, and recommend design improvements.
- Utilize civil engineering and utility design software, including MicroStation, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, OpenRoads Designer, and Civil 3D.
- Prepare progress reports and technical documentation using Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write technical memoranda and present technical information to project teams.
- Manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively, ensuring deadlines are met in a fast-paced project environment.
- Ensure compliance with DOT requirements and company CAD standards across all design deliverables.
- Assist the Production CAD Manager with the implementation of project standards and the preparation of technical presentations.
- Lead small teams of designers on assigned tasks and project scopes, providing technical direction and quality oversight.
- Support the development of CAD/software training materials and standardized workflows to improve efficiency and consistency across projects.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), 3D Modeling, Drafting, Surveying, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- Five (5) or more years of experience in CAD design and plan set production for roadway, drainage, and utility infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, including both 2D and 3D design environments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Civil 3D, Bentley InRoads, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, and Revit is considered a strong advantage.
- General knowledge of civil engineering principles, materials, and construction practices related to utility and transportation projects.
- Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend civil engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies, errors, and inconsistencies in design documents.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, with the ability to plan ahead, problem-solve, and conceptualize design solutions.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, surveyors, and other project team members.

Base Compensation: $75,000/yr - $95,000/yr
