Position Overview

The current role we are seeking is to be a Systems Assurance Lead, with a background and skillset in RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety and Security) to join our growing Integrative Technical Solutions (IETS)- Systems Engineering Team in our Lone Tree Office. The successful candidate will apply Systems Engineering principles and appropriate methods and techniques throughout project delivery in accordance with client requirements and applicable rules, regulations, and standards. The role involves supporting the definition, allocation, and management of system requirements; contributing to interface management activities; and performing design analyses, verification activities, and system safety assessments. The candidate will support the identification, analysis, mitigation, and verification of hazards and risks, and contribute to demonstrating compliance with safety, security, and assurance requirements across the full system lifecycle, with RAMS considerations addressed as part of an integrated systems assurance approach.

 

The candidate will work closely with our Systems Assurance and Systems Integration Managers and the broader IETS Team on the delivery of an expanding portfolio of Infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

Additional areas the candidate will be exposed to and may support include:

  • Interpreting and applying regulatory, statutory, and standards‑based safety and security requirements across the project lifecycle, aligned with recognized systems engineering best practices (INCOSE Systems Engineering Handbook, ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288).
  • Supporting projects through regulatory approval, acceptance, and certification activities, including engagement with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), Independent Safety Assessors (ISA), and other external oversight bodies.
  • Planning, executing, and documenting system safety assurance activities using a structured systems engineering approach consistent with INCOSE guidance and applicable safety standards such as EN 50126 / EN 50129, MIL‑STD‑882, and the Canadian Method of Risk Evaluation and Assessment.
  • Performing and coordinating system and operational hazard analyses throughout the systems engineering lifecycle, including:
    • Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA)
    • Subsystem and System Hazard Analyses (SSHA / SHA)
    • Interface and Operational Hazard Analysis
    • ensuring hazards are systematically identified, classified, mitigated, verified, and formally closed.
  • Developing, maintaining, and governing the project Integrated Hazard Log, ensuring bidirectional traceability between hazards, safety requirements, design solutions, verification activities, and acceptance evidence in accordance with INCOSE lifecycle and requirements management principles.
  • Assisting in the derivation, validation, allocation, and management of system safety and security requirements, ensuring traceability from regulatory obligations through design, implementation, verification, validation, and transition to operations.
  • Authoring, reviewing, and contributing to regulatory‑facing safety documentation, including:
    • Safety Management and Safety Assurance Plans
    • Safety Requirements Specifications
    • Safety Justification and Compliance Reports
    • Engineering Safety Assurance Cases, including structured safety arguments and supporting evidence consistent with systems assurance best practices.
  • Supporting the development and execution of verification and validation (V&V) strategies consistent with the systems engineering lifecycle, including participation in design reviews, testing, commissioning, and readiness‑for‑service activities.
  • Developing, reviewing, or supporting system security risk assessments, including Threat and Vulnerability Assessments (TVA), and assisting with the derivation, allocation, and verification of security requirements integrated into the overall systems engineering framework.
  • Reviewing supplier, contractor, and third‑party safety, security, and assurance deliverables for compliance with contractual, regulatory, and systems engineering requirements, and supporting issue resolution and closure.
  • Supporting interface management activities, ensuring safety and security risks are identified and controlled across system, subsystem, organizational, and lifecycle boundaries.
  • Collaborating with Systems Integration, design, construction, commissioning, and operations teams to ensure safety and security are embedded through disciplined systems engineering processes, rather than applied solely as post‑design verification.
  • Where required, supporting RAM analyses (e.g., FMECA, Reliability Block Diagrams) as part of an integrated RAMS and systems assurance approach to support safety objectives, lifecycle performance, and regulatory commitments.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of Systems Engineering, Safety, Assurance, and Security processes, aligned with INCOSE principles, to ensure auditability, consistency, and readiness for regulatory and independent assurance reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • P.Eng. / PE / TSSP / INCOSE – ASEP preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years working in a Systems Engineering/Systems Assurance/RAMS environment with preference to those with rail transit experience and familiarity with the application of CENELEC standards.
  • Experience in the Systems Engineering lifecycle is an asset, including typical tools for requirements development (for example, DOORS / JAMA)
  • Proficiency in common industry software platforms
  • The individual will be required to plan, organize, and coordinate work with groups of professionals and technicians.
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
  • Ability to travel as required for business purposes, including within the United States and Canada.

 

ADDITIONAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

  • The individual must be inquisitive and willing to learn about a wide variety of rail and other Infrastructure systems requirements as part of the team.
  • The candidate should have a technical basis in engineering (from academics and work experience, ideally with professional consulting work experience) and have technical written and oral communication skills as the role will frequently involve collaboration with clients, contractors, and other engineering firms in a rail transit engineering and/or delivery environment.
  • Experience on challenging Infrastructure projects with direct client interface and complete project life cycle (concept design through to commissioning & handover) is an asset.
  • Project Management experience is an asset.

Base Compensation: $150,000/yr - $180,000/yr 
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
