We are adding experienced Field Engineers to our Central division of Kiewit to support our growing Infrastructure project portfolio around the country.  As an experienced Field Engineer, you will play a significant part in the success of planning, organizing and implementing project engineering & project controls tasks for our heavy civil construction projects that could include major highway infrastructure, bridge projects, rail/transit, aviation, water/wastewater and power projects.  Excellent communication, attention to detail and an ability to work well in a team environment are considered critical to this position. We are looking for individuals with motivation and eagerness to expand their skillset in infrastructure construction and want to build a career with great mentoring and development to get you there!  This team is the first construction team to the site, performing site prep for the roads, bridges and industrial facilities. Our team performs mass grading/excavation, construction survey, cut and fill, drainage, paving, underground piping and utility work, earthwork, site development, concrete form work, asphalt paving, and other related activities.

District Overview

Kiewit’s Central District is one of our largest infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, structural concrete/bridge, water/wastewater, and also support power projects.   We self-perform work such as Surveying, earthwork, excavation, cut and fill, mass grading, drainage, paving, concrete forming, cast in place concrete, rebar, underground utilities, storm water/sewers systems, piping, so be ready to get your hands dirty!  While headquartered in Denver, Colorado, the majority of our work is concentrated in the Central and South-Central regions of the United States. We are looking for people committed to the construction industry rather than design and willing to go where the work is! .

Location

In this role you would support projects in our Rocky Mountain region that could include working in the following states:  CO, ND, SD, WY, MT, NE, NM, MO, IA, KS, MN, MS, TN, and KY.

We offer per diem for our projects, and trips home for projects of longer duration.  

Responsibilities

Field Engineering:

•    Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision.

•    Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining percentage of completed/installed materials and work.

•    Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages.

•    Assist in field surveying and work layout support including elevation, control points, and compilation of as-built data.

•    Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming daily labor timesheets.

•    Assist in the preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s).

•    Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training.

•    Order and schedule material deliveries.

•    Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite.

•    Supervise field operations.

 

Office Engineering:

•    Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications and other contract documents.

•    Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations.

•    Assist Engineers to gather and prepare data for submittal or transmittal to the customer, vendors, subcontractors, governmental agencies, and internal use.

•    Participate in the preparation of purchase orders and subcontracts, performing minor solicitations and purchasing as requested.

•    Schedule maintenance and performing updates as directed by others.

•    Assist in the maintenance of basic project recordkeeping and correspondence functions including daily reports, photographs, requests for information (RFIs), and memorandums.

•    Enter data into the job cost system and participate in reviewing cost reports with jobsite management.

•    Assist in generating change orders and as-built data to be reviewed by the Project Manager.

•    Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations.

 

Estimating:

•    Assist in reviewing and analyzing historical data relative to the project, incorporating various productions and costs appropriate in preparation of a bid.

•    Complete a plan and specification review for an assigned project, assessing the risk areas and bringing them to the attention of the Senior Estimator.

•    Complete material and quantity takeoffs according to bid documents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering or related field, and 3 years experience performing work as outlined above, preferably for Power, or other Industrial facilities or Heavy Civil Infrastructure (Bridge/Road/Aviation).  If Associates degree, must have 6 years, and if no degree, must have 10 years related experience in field engineering for construction projects performing the functions as outlined above.  Experience with Self-perform construction is preferred.
  • Must have working knowledge and experience in the operations of these types of systems or functions;  scheduling, CPM, unit man-hour performance, material control, estimating and subcontracts review/management.
  • Ability to read, analyze and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents and identify and resolve those in the field.   Assist Safety Managers with JHA's, safety training.   
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative with a Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time, commitment to ethics and integrity
  • Experience working with craft, foreman, equipment operators and Superintendents in the field, exhibiting strong problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.  
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
  • Competent in the use of computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Sharepoint and Outlook, as well as experience with scheduling and financial systems is required
  • Ability to travel and/or relocate as needed to projects that will vary in duration in the states listed above.

Base Compensation: $95,000/yr - $105,000/yr 
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
