Position Overview
As an entry-level Substation Structural Engineer in the Power Delivery department, you will be part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing structural calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe.

Location
This position can be based out of Lenexa, KS or Omaha, Nebraska.
Responsibilities
• Design and analyze new and existing substation and transmission structures and foundation systems.
• Prepare and review drawing and calculation packages.
• Apply and review department and industry standards when preparing calculations, project drawings, and project specifications for procurement and construction.
• Incorporate the requirements of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract, customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), professional service agreements, or other contractual requirements ensuring the projects meet or exceed project goals.
• Identify and propose value engineering or best installed cost options for projects and process improvement opportunities.
• Coordinate with internal and external partners including cross-discipline, construction, vendors, fabricator(s), and owners to address structural-related issues or concerns including constructability reviews and construction RFIs.
• Prepare, monitor, and update project plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets (e.g., new scope or potential change orders) to project management and department management.
• Support department managers in achieving performance goals for the department.
• Apply engineering application software to complete engineering tasks such as foundation and steel structure design.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural or Architectural engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year program
• 0-2 years’ experience in Structural design engineering in the Power/ Industrial industry preferred
• Proficient with spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and computer operations.
• Knowledgeable in basic engineering software and eager to learn, specifically SAP2000, STAAD, SAFE, RISA3D, PLS POLE, PLS TOWER, LPILE, FAD Tools, and MathCAD.
• General knowledge of engineering standards including ASCE 7, 10, 48, 74, 113, ACI 318, 336, AISC 325, 348, 360, and IBC.
• Eligibility to take Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
• Legally able to work in the United States for any length of time
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, fluent in English.
• Passion to become a licensed PE.
