Position Overview

The Senior Quality Technician supports project delivery by executing and improving quality control and quality assurance activities across power construction projects (e.g., substation builds, transmission/distribution lines, underground, renewable generation, EPC scopes). This role performs inspections and tests, validates documentation, supports commissioning and turnover, and drives corrective/preventive actions to ensure work meets contract specifications, codes, drawings, and company standards. The ideal candidate is field-savvy, detail-oriented, and confident collaborating with construction, engineering, safety, and client representatives in fast-paced environments.

District Overview

Kiewit Power Constructors (KPC) provides direct-hire construction services for Power Generation utilizing a union craft force. Kiewit Power Constructors builds major EPC and bid-build power plants, solar fields, and wind farm projects throughout North America. 

Location

This position is located in the Homer City, PA area. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final inspections on civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical scopes (e.g., concrete, rebar, steel erection, cable terminations, grounding, conduit, equipment installation).
  • Execute Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), verify adherence to drawings/specs, and document results with traceability.
  • Witness tests (e.g., torque/tension, megger/insulation resistance, continuity, hipot as applicable to role), collaborating with commissioning teams.
  • Maintain QA/QC records including inspection reports, test reports, mill certs, weld maps, material heat numbers, calibration certificates, and nonconformance reports (NCRs).
  • Ensure documentation supports system turnover packages, as-builts, and client handover requirements.
  • Identify, log, and track NCRs; support root cause analysis; verify rework and corrective/preventive action effectiveness.
  • Escalate issues impacting safety, reliability, or schedule; help drive timely resolution with project teams and vendors.
  • Verify compliance with codes/standards (e.g., NEC/NESC, ACI, AWS D1.1/D1.8 as applicable, utility specifications, company Quality Manual).
  • Support internal and external audits; prepare evidence and implement follow-up actions.
  • Inspect incoming materials and equipment for damage, certification, and conformity; verify storage/handling requirements (e.g., cable reels, transformers, structural steel).
  • Monitor calibration status of tools and test equipment; coordinate with calibration service providers.
  • Assist development and continuous improvement of ITPs, checklists, procedures, and turnover templates.
  • Provide field coaching to craft/foremen on workmanship and documentation best practices.
  • Contribute quality metrics and trend analyses; recommend improvements to reduce rework and punch items.
  • Participate in pre-install meetings, quality walks, and punchlist management with owners, EPC partners, and AHJs.
  • Support RFI responses with objective quality evidence and clear documentation.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5–8+ years in QA/QC or field construction, with at least 3 years in power/utility, substation, T&D, or industrial electrical environments.
  • Reading/interpreting engineering drawings, one-lines, schematics, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with NEC/NESC, utility standards, and typical ITP/checklist workflows.
  • Hands-on knowledge of electrical terminations, grounding, cable testing, equipment installation tolerances, and civil/structural foundations common to power projects.
  • Proficiency in digital QA/QC platforms (e.g., Procore, BIM 360/ACC, Bluebeam, or similar), MS Office, and basic data entry for inspection records.
  • Strong written and verbal skills; able to present findings and influence corrective actions with field and leadership teams.
  • Willingness to work onsite at active construction sites, travel to project locations, and work extended hours/weekends as required by the schedule.
