Position Overview
Kiewit is seeking a Specialty Systems Preconstruction / Estimator with expertise in low-voltage systems—including security, fire alarm, and telecom—to support our growing portfolio of Data Center projects. This hybrid role blends project strategy, estimating, subcontractor engagement, and efficient handover to project teams, making it ideal for professionals with both field and preconstruction experience.
You’ll play a key role in shaping early project decisions, developing cost models, and aligning system design with execution strategies. Your contributions will directly impact project success by ensuring constructability, cost-efficiency, and speed to market.

Responsibilities
- Lead and support preconstruction efforts for security, fire alarm, and telecom systems across all project phases.
- Develop detailed estimates and budgets based on design documents, performance criteria, and system requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to align system design with project goals.
- Engage with subcontractors and suppliers to validate pricing, availability, and constructability.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability workshops, and scope alignment meetings.
- Perform technical bid evaluations and support value engineering initiatives.
- Assist in transitioning estimates to project teams, ensuring a smooth handoff and providing technical support during buyout and execution.
- Familiarity with BAS / BMS - “Building Automation System / Building Management System".
- Stay current on industry standards, technologies, and applicable codes (NFPA, NEC, IBC, UL, etc.)
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in electrical estimating, low-voltage systems, or specialty systems integration.
- Preferred experienced in Data Center or mission-critical environments.
- Prior field experience as an Electrician, Low-Voltage Technician, or similar craft role is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of security systems (access control, CCTV, intrusion detection), fire alarm systems, and telecom infrastructure.
- Familiarity with EPC and design-build delivery models.
- Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Trimble, Bluebeam, Excel).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across disciplines.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, riser diagrams, and specifications.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NFPA 72, NEC, UL 924, BICSI, etc.).
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. #LI-KS23
