Position Overview
Kiewit Power is currently seeking a Sr. Business Development Manager to lead sales efforts in the Southeast Region. The Business Development Manager (BDM) is a long term, client facing, relationship building position, focusing on identifying and successfully pursuing profitable projects with high value clients to meet our business plan goals. We are seeking candidates who are committed, energized and highly motivated with a passion for supporting the energy transition and growing our Power business.
The ideal candidate will be in the Southeast region and will have existing familiarity and relationships at key accounts in the southeast region. The BDM role is for self-motivated, results oriented individuals who are adept at successfully applying internal Kiewit processes while devoting maximum effort to external client activities.
The role will report to the Power Generation business development leader, within Kiewit Energy Group. The role involves leadership in the growth and continued success of our EPC, Construction, and Engineering consulting services businesses in our power generation markets, which include Combined and Simple Cycle Natural Gas, Solar, Battery, Pumped and other long duration energy storage, Green Hydrogen, and Carbon Capture.
The BDM will coordinate with individual Business Line Managers (BLM) who are assigned as the EPC opportunity becomes a clear pursuit opportunity. The BLM is the lead responsible party for estimating, technical and commercial strategy. The BDM and BLM work closely together as a team to implement our win strategy to capture targeted projects that meet our business plan goals.
District Overview
The Kiewit Energy marketing, creative, and proposal team provides get-work services to multiple markets including power generation, transmission and distribution, renewables, industrial, oil and gas, and water/wastewater. We focus on winning work with high-quality, client-focused sales strategies through creative communication techniques. Our team brings vast experience and expertise to all projects we support across the company.
Location
This position is based out of the Southeast Region and requires up to 50% travel with overnight stays.
Responsibilities
- Build strong industry relationships and lead the development of key messages for all client interactions, communications, prequalification, proposals and presentations.
- Establish relationships across a wide spectrum of contacts within our client’s organizations, from C-Suite through engineering and project leads
- Utilize industry contacts to create a clear picture of a client’s organization, decision making and strategy to adequately formulate and execute win strategies to capture work
- Position Kiewit for success, by identifying client hot buttons and developing win strategies to meet our clients needs. The BDM will lead capture plans with our pursuit team
- Advocate for client pursuits during internal bid/no-bid justifications and present competitive position; win strategy, partnering, etc. to management for adequate disposition of the opportunity
- Conduct debriefs meetings with clients, supply chain, project management and executives, determining causes for both missed and won work to formulate lessons learned and best practices.
- Engage clients at industry relevant conferences and work with both management and marketing to ensure the development of messaging, attendance and investment efficiently drives growth
- Monitor and analyze the competition regionally and provide real time input to business leaders on noteworthy shifts by the competition that may represent threats or opportunities for Kiewit
- Ensure an effective approach to proposal development and assist with the desired content for proposal documents and project estimates.
- Utilize technical knowledge at industry events, to strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, and when offering clients, the most innovative solutions.
- Lead presentations at industry events and client offices to promote Kiewit culture and brand.
- Lead account management activities including account planning, opportunity identification
- Identify opportunities that meet Kiewit’s business objectives, and communicate opportunity scope, schedules, and other details within our organization
- Enter and update CRM content to best inform management and participating districts on opportunities
- Engage in quarterly Kiewit Power business development meetings as well as weekly progress calls
- Manage assigned overhead to a budget
- Participate in special assignments that may exist outside of the bounds of assigned Power markets, but serves the greater purpose of Kiewit
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar field required
- A minimum of 10 years proven experience in the Power industry
- A strong set of industry contacts with clients Kiewit is or desires to be engaged with
- Demonstrated business planning and growth experience
- Strong leadership and networking skills
- Willingness to travel (>50% of time) with overnight stays required
- High degree of self-motivation
- Motivated by competition, yet a team player
- Excellent oral and written communication skill
