Position Overview

 

The Weld Quality Engineer/Specialist is responsible for executing Project Supplier Quality requirements on the Project as per the Clients requirements liaising with supplier fabrication site, project team and coordinate inspections. They will be the point contact for the Suppliers for Quality on the Project and interact with other disciplines, Engineering, Procurement and Project Management. This is an office-based position, but there will be a requirement for the individual to travel up to 40% of this time both domestic and international as needed.

Responsibilities

 

  • Review and approval of project specific Supplier Quality and manufacturing documents including Quality plans, ITP, WPS/PQR, WPQ, Weld maps, MTRs etc. against codes, standards, and technical specifications. 
  • Track, manage and resolve supplier nonconformities & quality issues. 
  • Ensure Client Quality requirements are met as set forth in Client Specifications
  • Inspect or support assigned inspectors to ensure pressure vessels, equipment, piping, structural fabrications, and equipment are to code and project requirements
  • Ensure alignment of inspection and expediting activities
  • Review and approval of Supplier manufacturing records
  • Preparation of Project Specific Quality Documents such as instructions, checklists etc.
  • Perform Supplier Audits
  • Review and approve Supplier deviation requests / disposition technical queries related to Quality
  • Coordinate with Supplier, Customer & TPI for witness and hold inspection points per project ITPs
  • Review and approval of the final documentation package / data book
  • Undertaking training as required
  • Support other tasks as assigned by Project Supplier Quality Manager or Department Manager. 
  • Act as welding Subject Matter expert on ASME and AWS code for the department. 
     

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in weld engineering, metallurgy, or similar discipline plus 5 years of related industry experience or Associates degree with minimum of 10 years of related experience in lieu of degree.
  • Knowledge of the design and fabrication requirements of packaged process units
  • Be able to read fabrication drawings for pressure vessels, piping, and structural fabrications
  • Knowledge of ASME and AWS welding requirements
  • Knowledge of inspection and NDE requirements
  • Must be able to communicate in a professional manner
  • Ability to review project and customer technical specifications and incorporate the requirements into Project Quality Plans and ITP’s
  • Experience with Supplier surveillance and review & approval of Quality documentation such as WPS/ PQRs, Weld maps, WPQs, NDE reports, various test reports and material certificates
  • Competency in pressure vessel, piping, and structural welding preferred
  • Worked with a medium to heavy manufacturing facility with machining, welding, and assembly processes
  • Knowledge of various materials of construction.
  • Experience in oil, gas, refinery, power generation and/or water processing projects 
  • Required to be fully numerate and computer literate (MS Office)
  • Good communication skills at all levels of the business
    • Desired skills:
      • Quality Auditing
      • ISO 9001:2015 experience
      • CWI, CSWIP or similar certification
