Position Overview
Located on a project, the Project Welding Manager (PWM) supports the Quality Manager with all aspects of the implementation and management of the welding program on the project. The PWM is involved in the planning, training, troubleshooting, and execution of all welding related operations. The PWM will report to Quality Manager for project specific coordination as well as the Welding Services Group or district welding personnel for technical coordination and tracking. The PWM must possess thorough knowledge and understanding of the QA Manual, Project Quality Plan, as well as corporate and district Quality Standards as they affect welding operations. The PWM must also possess thorough knowledge and understanding of all relevant welding codes of construction, industry standard processes, procedures, practices, and contract/client specific requirements that affect the projects. Relocation to project site locations required.

Location
This position will vary upon project needs.
Responsibilities
- Manage the development and implementation of a contract-specific welding plan.
- Develop site-specific welding standards, work instructions, training modules, welder expectations, metrics, and goals.
- Provide hands-on craft training particularly with GMAW and FCAW welding processes as they apply to pipe welding.
- Participate in planning activities for all welding operations.
- Assist with detailed risk evaluation of welding operations.
- Track welder production, analyze, forecast welding productivity, and provide welding corrective actions.
- Provide support to field staff to ensure productivity meets or exceeds expectations, without compromising the quality of the welds.
- Manage and maintain the project welder continuity program to track welder continuity and performance.
- Evaluate consumables, equipment, and materials for best efficiency.
- Troubleshoot issues and provide training to prevent them.
- Manage and maintain the project filler metal control program
- Train and mentor junior welding engineers and technicians.
- As requested, manage ASME Code welding related activities.
- Stay abreast of, promote, and manage state of the art and innovative welding techniques, special processes, and procedures.
- Research technical welding matters and distribute reference material to support the project.
- Assist in conducting Project Quality Audits focusing on welding and related functions
- Promote and maintain effective communications and relations (verbally and in writing) with district management, the project management teams, and the engineer/client as required.
Qualifications
• Ability to travel and relocate as needed
• Must have a four-year engineering, science, or technical college degree plus 7+ years of experience in a related construction field;
or an associate degree in engineering technology or science plus 9+ years of experience in a related construction field (at least three of these years in a quality position);
or a high school graduate or equivalent (GED) plus 10+ years of experience in a related construction field (at least five of these years in a quality position).
• Must have working knowledge of construction industry codes as applicable (ACI, AWS, ASME, NEC, etc.) as well as applicable certifications.
• Self-starter with advanced organizational, managerial and leadership skills.
