Position Overview

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering (KIWE) is seeking a Process Engineer Intern to be a part of our growing Engineering team that is developing industrial and water infrastructure solutions across North America. You will assist with small projects, or as a part of a large multi-discipline team on larger projects, to develop conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools/programs/software with a focus on design documentation creation/layout.

The Industrial Group projects span markets such as advanced technologies; industrial energy; drinking water; wastewater treatment and biosolids; desalination; industrial water; mining, minerals and metals; and process industries.

Location

This position is based in our Lenexa, KS office.  

Responsibilities

•    Work within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and designers to execute design and engineering on projects 
•    Assist with the design of industrial water/wastewater systems, water/wastewater treatment systems, desalination systems, biogas, bulk solids material handling, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, process piping, conveying systems, dust collection, general plant/facility utilities, compressed air, steam, and gas systems
•    Assist with preparing water mass balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for system technologies including coagulation, flocculation, filtration, reverse osmosis (industrial and desalination), ion exchange, condensate polishing, wastewater treatment, chemical handling/storage/injection, sampling and analysis and other industrial systems including, but not limited to, bulk solids conveyors, dust collection equipment, bins/tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, and other process equipment.
•    Assist with preparing design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
•    Uses specific software packages for process systems and hydraulics modeling and scenario studies (Aspen, HYSYS, etc.) 
•   Assist in the preparation, monitoring, and updating of project plans, schedules, and budgets in coordination with project discipline leadership to ensure successful project completion.

Qualifications

•      Pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
•      3.0 Cumulative GPA preferred
•      Knowledge of Aspen HYSYS and other process simulation tools preferred 
•      Experience with Microsoft Office Suites 
•    General knowledge of process/water treatment technologies as applicable in the Municipal, industrial water/wastewater and/or desalination industry is a plus
•    Good knowledge of Chemistry, Thermodynamics, Hydraulics, and Fluid Mechanics is required
•    Works well in a team environment
•    Willingly accepts multiple assignments with demonstrated flexibility in changing workload and priorities
•    Good communication skills
•    Demonstrated analytical skills
