Position Overview

Kiewit is seeking a highly experienced Pre-Construction Manager to lead preconstruction efforts for large-scale EPC projects in the Advanced Manufacturing sector, including semiconductor fabrication plants, data centers, and battery manufacturing facilities. This role is critical in shaping project success from concept through execution, ensuring alignment with client goals, cost efficiency, and constructability.

Kiewit’s Industrial and Water Engineering Group has the ability and the responsibility to greatly influence the successful outcome of our projects. Our team is multi-faceted, with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities.

Based out of Lenexa, Kansas office. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead preconstruction planning for projects exceeding $500 million in value.
  • Develop and manage conceptual and detailed estimates using historical data, market trends, and cost metrics.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure design optimization and constructability.
  • Drive value engineering initiatives to reduce cost and improve project outcomes.
  • Manage and mentor a team of estimators and preconstruction professionals.
  • Interface with clients to understand project goals and present preconstruction strategies and budgets.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing, scope alignment, and risk mitigation.
  • Support proposal development and participate in win strategy sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with Kiewit’s internal processes and industry best practices.
  • Lead risk analysis and contingency planning during early project phases.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in preconstruction or estimating, preferably in EPC delivery models.
  • Proven experience in Advanced Technology Facilities (ATF) such as semiconductor, data center, or battery manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of self-perform construction and industrial project delivery.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and client-facing skills.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., WinEst, Timberline, or similar).
  • Ability to travel as needed for project and client engagement.
