Position Overview

As a Paralegal in our Legal Department, you will support litigation, dispute resolution, subpoena responses, and investigations. Working under in-house counsel and alongside outside counsel, you’ll assist with discovery, document management, legal correspondence, and administrative tasks. This role requires professionalism, discretion, accuracy, and initiative.

District Overview

The Legal Department at Kiewit plays a critical role in supporting the company’s strategic objectives and operational excellence. The department provides proactive, solution-oriented legal guidance in all aspects of our business. The Legal Department is composed of experienced attorneys, paralegals, and legal operations professionals strategically located across North America. The team works closely with district leadership, project managers, safety and compliance teams, and external counsel to ensure seamless legal support throughout the project lifecycle.

Location

This is an in-office position based in either Lenexa, KS (8900 Renner Blvd.) or Omaha, NE (1550 Mike Fahey Street). Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to subpoenas by reviewing and gathering relevant records.
  • Support discovery efforts, including identifying, preserving, and analyzing electronic and physical evidence.
  • Draft and revise legal correspondence, memos, and presentations.
  • Coordinate document execution and manage legal document distribution.
  • Assist with internal investigations, including research and witness interviews.
  • Use case management software to enter matter status information, run status reports, pay invoices, and track expenses.
  • Maintain the organization of files, including, but not limited to, pleadings associated with external legal matters.
  • Review and process outside counsel invoices and track legal expenses.
  • Schedule meetings, manage calendars, and coordinate travel and expense reports using Concur. 

Qualifications

  • Certificate or degree in Paralegal Studies, Law, Business, or related field.
  • Experience in a legal or HR department, law firm, or audit department. 
  • 3+ years of litigation support experience; eDiscovery experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), ASCENT, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Concur.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to collaborate across all levels.
  • Fluency in French or Spanish is a plus.
  • Flexible and able to work independently in a dynamic environment. #LI-AK1
