Position Overview

Kiewit Nuclear Solutions is seeking entry level Mechanical Designers. We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also using these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates shall be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignments while keeping a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career.

Location

This role is in Oak Ridge, TN or Lenexa, KS. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D models and maintain plan, diagram, and detail drawings using sketches and design skills, navigating models for interferences and constructability 
  • Resolve comments on checked drawings, implement feedback, and complete as-builts by integrating RFIs, ECNs, and red-marked construction drawings as required 
  • Gather and organize information for drawing development, create comprehensive check packages, and ensure all work aligns with Kiewit’s design and quality standards, as well as applicable codes 
  • Perform assignments efficiently, manage various tasks including rework, and meet schedule deadlines while keeping Lead Designer informed of progress and any deviations from standards 
  • Conduct personal quality checks within a team environment, reviewing design for consistency, safety, operability, and maintenance before submission 
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of piping layouts and field drawings 
  • Participate in meetings (e.g., Weekly Project Meetings), proactively seek new knowledge and skills, and actively apply feedback 

Qualifications

  • Associate/Bachelor’s in CAD/design or related field, or HS diploma with relevant coursework/experience 
  • Proficient in computer-aided drafting programs (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Navisworks, SmartPlant) with entry to intermediate AutoCAD skills, and basic knowledge of current operating systems 
  • Communicates clearly and professionally via email, electronic meetings, and written or verbal forms 
  • Familiar with spreadsheets and databases 
  • Successfully adapts to workload demands, manages multiple tasks, meets deadlines, and follows through on commitments 
  • Receives and implements instructions for routine and new assignments as needed 
  • Works effectively within a team, taking direction, contributing independently, and supporting project goals through collaboration 
  • Acts as a contact for internal/external customers 
  • Must be a US citizen with documentation for badge access
  • Pass a security questionnaire and background check appropriate to position duties
