Position Overview

This Market Analyst internship will have you work full-time starting this summer for approximately 3-6 months, giving you the opportunity to develop, participate and learn key roles and functions within business development, specifically related to the advanced technologies and data center markets. The role combines a strong technical skill set with the mindset of someone that can look at the bigger picture and translate data into tangible action plans.

Our rapidly growing Industrial and Water Engineering Group, which includes mechanical, process, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Consumer Products, Heavy Manufacturing, Industrial Buildings, Industrial Water and Utilities. We have specialized expertise in plant floor process design, packaging, refrigerated/frozen facility design, and ammonia refrigeration systems.
Location
This position is located at our Industrial and Water hub in Lenexa, KS.
Responsibilities
- Acquire, organize, analyze, disseminate, and monitor information on markets, clients, competitors, specific projects, technology, and legislative developments to the Business Development team and management.
- Obtain data to support the forecasting and tracking of markets and trends, analyzing collected data, specifically in the advanced technologies and data center markets.
- Monitor industry statistics and follow trends in trade literature and other sources.
- Seek and provide data to help the company determine strategic positioning in various industries.
- Gather data on competitors and analyze their projects, win/losses, methods of marketing, strategies, and assist with the development of pursuit White Papers and Capture Plans.
- Perform in-depth market research on a variety of businesses in engineering, construction, and business fields.
- Assist with identification and update of opportunities by reviewing and understanding Local, State, and Federal funding mechanisms and Capital Investment Programs.
- Prepare reports, illustrating data graphically and translating complex findings into written text for the Business Development team and management.
- Contribute to the design, development, and operation of Kiewit’s Client Relationship Management system and other data management libraries.
- Organize and update key stakeholder contact information.
- Creating presentations for Senior Management.
- Assist the Business Development and Proposal Departments with other research and business development projects, as necessary.
- Coordinate with other Kiewit Districts to ensure our efforts are efficient and effective.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Library and Information Science, Economics, Business, Marketing, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
- Familiarity with the data center construction and engineering industry is a plus.
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with a wide range of research resources.
- Experience with PowerBI or similar programming skills.
- Experience with AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, CoPilot, etc.).
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to condense large amounts of information into fast, communicable information for senior managers
- Ability to prioritize and complete a high volume of work, managing multiple projects and coordinating multiple requests to successful completion.
- Solid interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.
- Basic understanding of data management and analytical software, such as CRM, SharePoint, Tableau, etc.
