The Electrical Design Engineer functions in a mid-level engineering capacity performs all aspects of conventional and nuclear design engineering. The engineer in this position must have an aptitude for practical engineering, a willingness to immerse oneself in the position and rapidly learn the business, ability to work with little supervision, have strong leadership skills, and be willing to travel periodically.

Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design Oversight
- Lead the development, review, and coordination of electrical engineering designs for commercial nuclear, DOE, and other highly regulated industrial projects.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to electrical engineers and designers, ensuring deliverables meet project requirements, quality standards, budgets, and schedules.
- Serve as the electrical engineering subject matter expert for complex design challenges and technical decision-making.
- Review, approve, and provide quality oversight of engineering calculations, specifications, studies, drawings, and design packages.
Power System Engineering
- Lead and perform detailed AC and DC power system analyses using ETAP, including:
- Short Circuit Studies
- Protective Device Coordination Studies
- Arc Flash Hazard Analyses
- Voltage Drop Studies
- Motor Starting Studies
- Load Flow and System Capacity Evaluations
- Develop engineering recommendations based on study results and ensure compliance with applicable industry codes and standards.
Design Development
- Develop design criteria, scopes of work, engineering packages, and technical documentation.
- Lead constructability reviews and design optimization efforts throughout project execution.
- Design and review electrical power distribution systems, grounding systems, lighting systems, communications systems, security systems, and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Support engineering change evaluations and manage design modifications throughout project lifecycles.
Procurement & Vendor Management
- Develop and review technical equipment specifications, bid packages, and procurement documentation.
- Evaluate supplier proposals and provide technical recommendations for equipment selection.
- Coordinate vendor interfaces, review vendor drawings and submittals, and manage technical inquiries throughout the procurement process.
Project Execution & Client Engagement
- Coordinate electrical engineering activities with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, structural, civil, I&C, and construction personnel.
- Act as the primary electrical engineering contact for clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Support project planning, resource forecasting, proposal development, and technical reviews.
- Identify project risks, scope changes, and opportunities for cost and schedule optimization.
Construction & Field Support
- Provide technical support during construction, startup, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Assist with resolving field design issues and developing practical engineering solutions.
- Travel to client offices, vendor facilities, and project sites to support design reviews, walkdowns, and construction coordination.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10-15+ years of electrical engineering experience supporting commercial nuclear, DOE, power generation, or other complex industrial facilities.
- Demonstrated experience leading electrical design efforts on multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Experience serving as a technical lead, discipline lead, or project engineering lead is preferred.
Technical Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems, including transformers, generators, switchgear, motor control centers, motors, protective relays, and power system protection schemes.
- Extensive experience preparing and reviewing engineering calculations, specifications, and design packages.
- Proficiency with ETAP or comparable power system analysis software.
- Familiarity with design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, Navisworks, or similar platforms.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including NEC, IEEE, NFPA, and nuclear industry design requirements.
- DOE and/or Commercial Nuclear experience strongly preferred.
Licensure
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.

Base Compensation: $143,000/yr - $149,000/yr
