This position is located in Lenexa, KS, or Oak Ridge, TN. 

Responsibilities

  • Power System Analysis: Perform and review detailed engineering calculations using ETAP, including AC/DC power studies, short circuit analysis, voltage drop, arc-flash, and protective relay settings.
  • Equipment & Vendor Coordination:
    • Develop and review equipment procurement specifications.
    • Support vendor bid evaluations and manage Q&A tracking.
  • Design & Documentation:
    • Prepare scoping documents and conceptual design reviews.
    • Create and review detailed designs for lighting, communications, and security systems.
  • Collaboration:
    • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (Mechanical, Structural, Civil, I&C).
    • Interface with clients and support implementation personnel.
  • Site Support: Travel to client/vendor offices and plant sites for design reviews and construction coordination.

Qualifications

Education & Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.

Experience:

  • 10–15+ years of experience in electrical engineering design for industrial applications or nuclear power plants.
  • Extensive background in commercial and DOE nuclear design projects.

Technical Expertise:

  • Proficient in electrical system design, including low and medium voltage distribution (transformers, generators, motors, relays).
  • Skilled in performing detailed engineering calculations using ETAP: AC/DC power studies, short circuit analysis, voltage drop, arc-flash, motor starting, and protective relay settings.
  • Experienced in preparing and reviewing specifications, procurement documents, and engineering design packages.
  • Knowledgeable in ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and engineering design principles (e.g., GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, interference checks).
  • Familiar with P&ID, PFD, and general arrangement drawings for skid-mounted or permanent equipment packages.
  • Competent in lighting, communications, and security systems design.

Project & Team Collaboration:

  • Interfaces effectively with multidisciplinary teams (Mechanical, Structural, Civil, I&C) and clients.
  • Participates in vendor bid evaluations and supports procurement processes.
  • Coordinates with fabricators and engineers to develop and refine designs.

Soft Skills & Work Ethic:

  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing error-free documentation.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying and resolving engineering challenges.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Leads integrated engineering processes to meet project milestones.
  • Conducts constructability reviews and supports conceptual design development.
  • Ensures compliance with quality assurance standards and timely project delivery.
  • Willing to travel (less than 20%) for design reviews and site coordination.

Base Compensation: $127,000/yr - $133,000/yr
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
