Position Overview

Quality Technician is responsible for supporting quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) activities during the construction of power generation facilities. This role ensures that all construction work complies with project specifications, engineering standards, safety requirements, and regulatory codes. The technician works closely with field teams, inspectors, engineers, and contractors to verify workmanship, document inspections, and help maintain overall project quality.

District Overview

Kiewit Power Constructors (KPC) provides direct-hire construction services for Power Generation utilizing a union craft force.  Kiewit Power Constructors builds major EPC power plant and solar projects throughout North America.

The position is located in Homer City, PA.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections and quality surveillance of construction activities including civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical scopes.
  • Verify installation and workmanship comply with project specifications, codes (e.g., ASME, ANSI, ASTM), and approved drawings.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and quality procedures.
  • Monitor contractor performance and identify quality deficiencies or non-conformances.
  • Document inspection results, maintain quality records, and generate inspection reports.
  • Issue and track non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective action requests.
  • Coordinate with project engineers, supervisors, and contractors to resolve quality issues.
  • Support testing and commissioning activities, including witnessing inspections and functional tests.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements during inspections.
  • Participate in audits, quality meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in material receiving inspections and verify proper storage and handling of materials.
  • Provide mentorship or guidance to entry-level technicians when needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in construction quality control/assurance, preferably in power generation, industrial, or heavy construction projects.
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in engineering, construction management, or related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of QA/QC principles and construction practices.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, AWS welding standards, NEC, ISO standards).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Experience with inspection tools, testing equipment, and documentation systems.
  • Knowledge of welding inspection, coatings, structural steel, piping, or electrical systems is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital reporting tools.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), NICET, or equivalent certification.
  • OSHA safety certification (10-hour or 30-hour).
  • Other relevant QA/QC certifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work in field environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions and construction sites.
  • Willingness to travel or work at project sites as required.
