Position Overview
Kiewit Nuclear Solutions is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer Intern. We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also using these standards and tools to contribute to project success. As an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer Intern, you will be a part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe.

Location
This role is in Oak Ridge, TN or Lenexa, KS.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to assess client needs and specify suitable equipment for effective design solutions
- Understands departmental standards, engineering codes, and Kiewit guidelines; offers input as required
- Develops I&C design documents such as Master Instrument Indexes, Alarm Setpoint Lists, Area Classification Guides, Control Narratives, Mounting Details, Rack Layouts, and Field Instrument Requirements
- Supports feasibility and planning studies by analyzing customer data and coordinating with engineers to provide recommendations
- Assists in contract administration for instrumentation and control systems, including FMCS, DCS, Remote I/O Cabinets, and instrumentation, ensuring timely submittals
- Responds to RFIs from clients and contractors on instrumentation, controls, operations, logic, and startup issues
- Reviews other disciplines' deliverables for I&C compatibility and impacts
Qualifications
- Enrolled in Instrumentation and Controls or Electrical Engineering (Bachelor’s/Master’s), with control system programming and logic diagram knowledge
- Able to represent Kiewit externally to owners, contractors, vendors, etc.
- Proficient in email, phone, in-person communication, and electronic meeting requests
- Skilled in spreadsheets, databases, and PDF software
- Strong organizational and communication skills; effective team player
- Must be a US citizen with documentation for badge access
- Pass a security questionnaire and background check appropriate to position duties
