Our rapidly growing Industrial Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities.
Location
This position is based out of Lenexa, Kansas or Lone Tree, Colorado office and we offer relocation assistance. Some consideration may be made for other office locations in the US, near other major Kiewit offices.
Responsibilities
- Conduct engineering cost, feasibility and planning studies analyzing customer needs and data including researching, investigate and coordinate with other engineers, and providing recommendations to the customer. Develop control narratives and I&C Architecture for projects. May lead projects and teams.
- Administer contracts for instrumentation and control equipment, especially the Distributed Control System (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)..
- Monitor and plan for required submittal dates.
- Respond to questions and Requests for Interpretation (RFIs) from the construction contractor dealing with applicable instrumentation and control systems, equipment, operations, and startup.
- Performs intermediate calculations and solves problems using well established scientific principles.
- Performs instrument air consumption, voltage drop.
- Conducts routine technical assignments and develops small to mid-size project or proposals.
- Works with designers to develop engineering and design documents as needed for the project.
- Considers multiple solutions and makes good decisions based on good data analysis.
- Recognizes, troubleshoots and resolves design constraints and issues. Applies economic analysis to determine best cost solutions.
- Has good understanding of the complete design and has good input into ways of improving the design and lowering costs with little to no supervision.
- Utilize codes and standards to complete assignments.
- Identifies changes in the scope of work during a small project and produces design changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule.
- Performs assigned work efficiently and effectively to maximize person productivity.
- Leads quality checks of the design and engineering of a small to mid-size project to ensure accuracy.
- Establishes credibility in terms of technical competency.
- Review OEM vendor packages for technical compliance to specifications
- Develop I&C design deliverables including Instrument List, Instrument Data Sheets, IO List, Network Architecture, Loop Drawings, and Control Narratives
- Review and manage I&C aspects of P&IDs
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering in an instrumentation controls, electrical, mechanical, chemical, physics, or equivalent engineering program from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university program
- At least 8 years’ experience performing engineering-related duties in I&C systems design, as outlined above
- Professional Engineer license preferred
- Must have familiarity with control system programming and fluency in reading logic diagrams, and experience developing narratives and architecture for I&C Systems. Prefer candidates with Data Center experience.
- Intermediate and advanced programming experience, especially with regard to DCS and/or Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming
- Experience in field construction, industrial, power or start-up work is desirable. Must be willing to go to the field up to 20% of the time for field testing, problem solving for design issues and turnover to our commissioning team. #LI-JB1

Base Compensation: $110,000 - $150,000
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
