Position Overview
Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer Intern for the Lenexa, KS office. We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates shall be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignments while maintaining a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career.

Location
This position is based out of our Lenexa, KS office.

 

Responsibilities
•    Assist in develop specifications and administer contracts for the furnishing and installation of fire alarm systems, water-based suppression systems, gaseous suppression systems, underground fire mains and fire pumps. 
•    Assist in the application of building and fire code requirements (primarily IBC/IFC), applicable National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, and other codes and standards for various projects. 
•    Assist in the development of fire protection design and fire hazard analysis for industrial facility job sites in order to determine hazards and designate appropriate active and passive fire protection schemes. 
•    Review the elements of the facility related to life safety and means of egress.
•    Coordination with interdisciplinary project teams to ensure the quality of the design, installation, and operation of the fire protection systems.   

 

Qualifications
•    Pursuing Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or Engineering Technology with a Fire Protection focus or related degree. 
•    Must have knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel
•    Strong work ethic - willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
•    Good written and verbal communication skills.
