Position Overview

he Finance Controller serves as the CFO and trusted advisor to Operations Managers and Executive Management, playing a critical leadership role in shaping the financial direction and operational success of the organization. This role is the cornerstone of our finance and accounting functions, ensuring that our business decisions are grounded in accurate, timely, and strategic financial insight.

You will be accountable for the integrity, accuracy, and clarity of all financial reporting, while developing and maintaining internal controls and procedures that promote financial discipline and operational efficiency. This position partners closely with senior leadership to provide insightful analysis and forward-looking guidance to support key business objectives.

As a strategic leader, you will monitor and influence operational strategies, help identify opportunities for growth and cost optimization, and serve as the primary point of contact for operational support teams and joint venture partners, ensuring clear visibility into project financial health.In addition to financial stewardship, this role is responsible for recruiting, mentoring, and developing top finance talent, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and high performance.

District Overview

Our rapidly growing Industrial Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Advanced Technologies (Data Centers, Semiconductors, EV Battery), Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Bioprocessing and Chemical processing, Water, and Wastewater treatment.  

Location

This is a full-time position, with the first project location in Lenexa, Kansas.  

Responsibilities

  • Lead cost planning, forecasting, and financial control across all phases of the data center construction lifecycle. You’ll collaborate with project executives, engineering teams, and external stakeholders to ensure financial transparency, risk mitigation, and cost optimization.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports for the entire project
  • Oversee the Prime contract from the financial perspective, as well as the sub-contracts
  • Lead cost control strategies across procurement, subcontractor management, and change orders
  • Analyze financial performance and provide actionable insights to executive leadership
  • Oversee monthly cost reporting, cash flow projections, and variance analysis
  • Collaborate with construction managers, schedulers, and estimators to align financial and operational goals
  • Ensure compliance with corporate financial policies and regulatory standards
  • Support contract negotiations and commercial risk assessments
  • Analyzes and effectively communicates financial results of the project to upper level management
  • Earns trust, credibility, and buy in of processes from Operations team to create better cohesion and clear communication within the organization
  • Manages the division of responsibilities and communication between various project & home office departments
  • Drives continuous improvement throughout the organization and is a proponent for positive change
  • Effectively utilizes the right data, reports, and tools for risk analysis and benchmarking
  • Reviews all project and estimate cash flows, contract terms, and change orders in detail for financial risks and opportunities and Recognizes when and who to escalate specific conversations/issues
    Substantiates, and reconciles all financial reports monthly and annually
  • Creates an inviting workplace that motivates and challenges each team member to achieve career goals and strive for opportunities
  • Understands the needs of the organization, aims to bring in high quality talent, and continually develops team members through critical conversations and performance reviews
  • Monitors results of new processes, trouble-shoots failures and issues, and presents solutions to unsolicited problems

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, and/or an equivalent degree is required
  • A minimum of 10 years of financial/data analysis or public accounting experience supporting construction projects, performing financial analysis of revenue, costs, budgets, reporting, cash flow projections, variance analysis, forecasting of financial trends on the project, monthly cost reporting, development of budgets, implementing financial controls on industrial projects and ability to present data to technical and leadership teams.  
  • Proficient with financial analysis/controls on Data Center or or similar, large scale EPC project
  • Proven track record managing budgets for construction of industrial facilities, ideally, data centers
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, proficiency with cost management and related software, data analysis and dashboard reporting
  • Effective communication (both oral and written), organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and responsibilities
  • High level of professionalism and standards
  • Must be able to freely access all parts of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments
  • Travel daily to and/or relocate to your assigned project, for duration of project.
  • Ability to work in United States without sponsorship, both now and in the future 
  • Certified Cost Professional (CCP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or PMP certifications preferred
