Position Overview

The Field Engineer II / Estimator is a mid-career project professional responsible for supporting the successful planning, estimating, execution, and delivery of large power delivery related projects. This position is designed to develop well-rounded project professionals through exposure to both preconstruction and field operations environments.

Individuals in this role may begin their career path in estimating, project controls, or field operations and must demonstrate a willingness to transition between office and project assignments as business needs require. The successful candidate will possess strong technical, analytical, and communication skills, along with the flexibility to support project sites, turnaround work, outage work, and temporary or long-term field assignments.

This position serves as a critical pipeline for future Project Engineers, Superintendents, Construction Managers, and Project Managers.

Location

This position could be based out of Lenexa KS or a project site.  Candidates need to be flexible with either option. 

Responsibilities

Estimating & Preconstruction
•    Assist in the preparation of quantity takeoffs, labor calculations, equipment estimates, and material pricing.
•    Support the development of cost estimates, proposals, bid packages, and project execution plans.
•    Participate in bid reviews, risk assessments, and estimate validation activities.
•    Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and scope documents to identify project requirements and risks.
•    Assist with subcontractor and vendor solicitation, evaluation, and bid analysis.
Field Engineering & Project Execution
•    Support field supervision and project management teams in the execution of construction activities.
•    Assist with project planning, scheduling, cost tracking, productivity monitoring, and reporting.
•    Coordinate engineering, procurement, and construction activities to support project objectives.
•    Prepare and maintain project documentation, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and daily reports.
•    Participate in quality control inspections and ensure compliance with project requirements.
•    Monitor field progress and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity.
Project Controls & Reporting
•    Track project costs, quantities, labor performance, and schedule progress.
•    Support forecasting, earned value analysis, and project reporting processes.
•    Assist with change management, risk identification, and mitigation planning.
•    Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
Safety & Quality
•    Promote and maintain a strong safety culture on all assignments.
•    Participate in safety meetings, audits, and jobsite inspections.
•    Support implementation of project quality management requirements and procedures.
•    Ensure work is performed in accordance with company, client, and regulatory standards.
Professional Development
•    Gain experience across multiple project phases including estimating, planning, procurement, construction, and project closeout.
•    Develop technical and leadership skills through field assignments and mentorship opportunities.
•    Participate in rotational assignments that broaden understanding of project execution and business operations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
•    Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, or a related field.
•    Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting large construction, industrial, infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, or EPC projects.
•    Understanding of construction processes, project controls, estimating principles, and field operations.
•    Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
•    Experience supporting industrial, power, energy, utility, heavy civil, or process facility projects.
•    Experience with quantity takeoffs, estimating software, scheduling software, or project controls systems.
•    Internship or prior field experience on active construction projects.
•    Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
Mobility & Travel Requirements
•    Must be willing and able to relocate temporarily or permanently to project sites as business needs dictate.
•    Must be flexible regarding assignment location, work environment, and project duration.
•    Ability to travel extensively and work extended schedules when required to support project execution.
•    Willingness to work in both office and field environments throughout career development.
