Position Overview
The Engineering Controls Manager is responsible for leading the Engineering Controls Team, as well as all operational & financial reporting for the Engineering Controls Department. The department services projects within all markets Kiewit Power Engineering (KPE) and Kiewit Industrial (K-IND) operate in. Duties include weekly reporting at project & department levels, staffing decisions, financial performance analysis, monthly reporting of operational results, and ongoing maintenance/development of performance metrics.

Our rapidly growing Industrial Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities.
Location
This position is based out of Lenexa, KS.
Responsibilities
- Must be able to articulate and summarize information and results to executive management.
- Accountable for budgeted, actual, and forecasted - quantity, man-hours and dollars.
- Accountable for the preparation and completion of internal audits.
- Provide leadership and coaching to the project controls staff, assisting with development plans and performance evaluations.
- Involvement in our compliance programs
- Maintain records as required regarding job progress, costs and tracking of change orders.
- Ensure client billing at Project Levels is occurring accurately and on-time.
- Perform other duties as required by leadership.
- Right sizing of team – identify opportunities to challenge individuals for their own career growth
- Review & Implement established Kiewit procedures, ensure existing SOPs are followed
- Monitor & develop KPIs (earned value analysis) – audit at key progress points on large projects
- Collaborate with operations management to build relationships and establish effective controls
- Represent Kiewit Engineering Controls in internal and external meetings – trainings, presentations to engineering partners, overviews to potential clients, etc.
- Coordination with Estimating and Business Management to support transition from proposal to execution
- Make data-driven decisions
- Show understanding of project schedule reports (Progress S-Curves and Manpower Bar Charts)
- Identify and understand key components in project contracts that impact project controls processes
- Maintain past cost integrity
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the business consulting, engineering, or construction industry.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation communications skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization, including executive.
- Confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities and experience speaking in public, to groups, or via electronic media.
- Ability to think strategically while identifying problems and developing creative solutions.
- Ability to summarize information and communicate results to executive management.
- Ability to build relationships and communicate across matrix organizations.
- Candidates must also be able and willing to do minimal travel for business needs.
- Exposure to data analytics and machine learning preferred.
