Position Overview

The Industrial engineering team within Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc. (KIND) is a multi-discipline engineering company serving many Industrial, Energy and Infrastructure markets in North America.  Organized as a multi-discipline engineering and architecture department, the Industrial Building Group (IBG) provides Kiewit projects with in-house building design services as part of design/build and Engineer/Procure/Construct (EPC) projects.  The IBG Department Manager is responsible for consistency and quality in overall building design execution and overall multi-discipline personnel performance and development.  This position will be a peer to the other KIND discipline department managers and report to the Director of Engineering.

Our rapidly growing Industrial Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities.

This position is based out of Lenexa, KS.

Responsibilities

•    Establishes the vision and culture for the department to meet the current and future business needs of the district and Kiewit markets.
•    Management and ownership of department performance (productivity, quality, schedule). Monitor project and team metrics and KPIs; seek out under-performance, develop and execute a plan for recovery.
•    Lead the effort to develop, own, and manage KIND tools, standards, processes, and procedures that are flexible for multiple markets.
•    Selection and management of department overhead initiatives.
•    Actively support project initiation and development in both Get Work and Build Work to ensure projects are set up for success.
•    Provide and oversee employee feedback for department staff with input/guidance to support career progression.
•    Execute and maintain a training and development plan for all department staff to develop high functioning teams who provide optimal solutions. 
•    Ensures that the department maintains a highly capable, committed, and engaged team through identification, recruitment, hiring, and retention of the top employees in the architectural and MEP services industry.
•    Manage project staffing needs to properly support each project with the mindset of serving both the project and the development of the team through setting and managing high expectations.
•    Drives communication within the projects, the departments, and partners ensuring understanding of strategy, shared goals, policies, practices, and programs. 
•    Collaborate with the estimating department with lessons from production. 
 
Additional responsibilities or specifics:
 
•    Maintain and continue to develop relationships with other engineering districts as the center of excellence for buildings - Arch/MEP/Structural. This involves weekly and monthly coordination meetings and travel to offices and projects to build relationships.
•    Attend monthly KIND District Operations Review meetings, quarterly updates with Kiewit Industrial Group President, bi-Weekly meetings with KIND Exec VP, and weekly meetings with Director, Engineering.
•    Annual Ratings, Differentiation, and Compensation; Bonus and Stock Recommendations for the staff 
•    Regularly review and audit department financials and resources/staffing
•    Review all building design estimates, attend Fee Reconciliation meetings to approve and buy off on the estimate prior to submittal - own the estimate
•    Produce or own the development of engineering/architectural fees for engineering only and Design Bid Build projects
•    Coordinate staff with Client meetings, attending site walks, etc. during the project development phase
•    Assist in the development of the KIND Business Plan 

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Architecture Engineering OR Bachelor/Master’s degree in Architecture
•    5 years of relevant experience
•    Design-Build or EPC project experience
•    Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) license preferred
•    Basic knowledgeable of multi-discipline industrial building design 
•    The candidate should have leadership experience, good communication skills and ability to work with a group of experienced professionals.
•    Self-starter that can integrate with various engineering design disciplines
•    Good written and verbal communication skills
