Position Overview

The Industrial & Water Engineering Communications team at Kiewit is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Communications Intern to support communication initiatives that drive alignment, engagement, and consistency across the department. This role is ideal for a candidate who enjoys collaborating with technical teams to deliver clear and effective communications.

The Industrial Group projects span markets such as advanced technologies; mining, minerals and metals; process industries; industrial energy; drinking water; wastewater treatment and biosolids; desalination; and industrial water.

Location

This position is based in our Lenexa, KS office.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain consistency in tone, branding, and messaging across all Industrial & Water Engineering communications. 

  • Draft, edit, and publish internal communications (emails, newsletters, intranet posts, engineering updates). 

  • Support the creation of content that highlights project milestones, team achievements, and process improvements.  

  • Assist in gathering and organizing information from engineering leaders, technical experts, and project teams to ensure communications are clear and accurate. 

Qualifications

Seeking a college junior or senior pursuing a degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Creative Writing, Political Science or a related field of study. The following are basic qualifications for the role: 

  • Excellent writing, research and verbal communication skills 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite preferred  
  • High level of motivation, willingness to learn and work independently 
  • Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy; strong organizational skills 
  • Proactive, professional and happy to assist others with a variety of tasks 
  • Ideal candidates have existing knowledge of AP Style
