Position Overview

As a Commissioning Electrical Superintendent, you will play a critical leadership role in planning, coordinating, and executing the commissioning of major electrical systems for large scale industrial projects. You will oversee system readiness, supervise pre functional and functional testing, and ensure safe, high quality energization activities in alignment with project requirements, contractual obligations, and commissioning standards.

Our rapidly growing Industrial & Water Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities. 

Location

This position will be based out of Lenexa, KS.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily safety meetings and enforce strict compliance with LOTO procedures and all safety standards.
  • Coordinate and oversee initial energization, functional testing, and commissioning of electrical systems.
  • Review test procedures and ensure all electrical commissioning activities follow the CSU manual and contractual requirements.
  • Troubleshoot electrical system issues, recommend corrective actions, and provide clear written reports.
  • Track progress of assigned systems and communicate status updates to commissioning and operations leadership.
  • Coordinate and monitor OEM activities that impact electrical commissioning and system performance.
  • Conduct walk-downs to identify deficiencies, support punch‑list resolution, and ensure systems are ready for commissioning.
  • Supervise electrical construction and commissioning work to verify compliance with quality standards and project specifications.
  • Manage commissioning schedules, coordinate with contractors, and ensure inspections are completed on time.
  • Maintain detailed operations and commissioning documentation, including logs, checklists, and test records.

Qualifications

 

  • Extensive experience in pre‑commissioning and commissioning of large‑scale industrial electrical systems (e.g., data centers, power generation, heavy industrial).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams of approximately 20 craft technicians during pre‑functional and functional testing phases.
  • Strong working knowledge of completions software such as WinPCS, MCPlus, Smart Completions, or equivalent systems.
  • Proven ability to coordinate effectively with engineering, construction, and commissioning teams to drive system readiness and meet project milestones.
  • Excellent planning, documentation, and field‑execution skills, with strong attention to detail and adherence to commissioning procedures and standards.
