Position Overview
The Commercial Manager is responsible for providing commercial leadership for industrial and technology-related EPC and construction pursuits and projects. This role will provide the necessary protocols, tools, and active pursuit and operational support, ensuring consistency in commercial standards, contractual governances, and risk management.
As part of our Get Work process, the Commercial Manager may lead or support contract analysis and negotiations, internal governance and risk assessment processes, financial analysis, pricing services, and training. The Commercial Manager may also lead or support various commercial needs for complex projects in execution. Examples could include supporting change order negotiations, analyzing contract completion requirements, converting to lump sum, etc. The role partners closely with Business Line Managers (BLMs), Business Development Managers (BDMs), legal, operations, and executive management to promote growth through the Kiewit Get Work processes and successful contract execution.

Location
This position will be based on‑site in Lenexa, KS.
Although travel is not a major component of this role, the Commercial Manager must be willing to meet customers and partners and visit projects, as needed. If not based in Kiewit Industrial office, the Commercial Manager must visit those offices on a regular basis as agreed with supervisor. Total travel is expected to be up to 25%.
Responsibilities
Includes, but is not necessarily limited to the following.
- Act as a trusted commercial advisor to business development and executives.
- Lead commercial strategy, contract analysis, negotiations, and execution with customers, partners, and suppliers for prospective and active projects.
- Lead development of pricing strategies and templates for complex and varied contracting models (e.g., EPC, C, CM, GC, CMAR, and MSAs).
- Maintain strong knowledge of internal cost structures and financial drivers that affect project profitability.
- Ensure commercial considerations are integrated into bid proposals, aligned to client / market considerations and company expectations.
- Develop and model key performance indicators for incentive-based contracts.
- Liaise with business development, estimating, operations, and executives for internal reviews and approvals.
- Support due diligence for potential partners and suppliers.
- Lead contract transition from negotiation and execution to project delivery.
- Provide commercial guidance and training to project teams and participates in project reviews as required.
- Build and maintain personal relationships with customer and partner commercial management teams.
- Strive for continuous improvement, documenting lessons learned, and leveraging best practices.
Qualifications
In addition to possessing the ability perform the essential duties, the Commercial Manager must have:
- Experience in complex contract negotiations and administration for engineering and construction projects.

Experience in pricing services or project controls, with strong foundational expertise in at least one of those functions
- Experience in the industrial and technology markets.

Experience with progressive GMP contracting models (preferred)
- Comfort operating in a complex, ambiguous, and fast-changing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and organize resources.
- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimum oversight.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Preferably experience on a project or home office with a large engineering or construction firm.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or other industry-related field. MBA or JD is preferred. A minimum of 10 years of experience, including at least 5 years in the engineering and construction industry is required.
