Location

This position will be based out of our Kiewit office in Lenexa, KS.

Responsibilities

•    Reviewing, analyzing and interpreting Contract Documents (RFP, specifications, drawings, and reference information) to develop conceptual design plans for a variety of power generation and industrial projects across the United States.
•    Independently evaluate, select and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to a variety of site development projects. 
•    Develop conceptual civil designs that may include analysis, calculations, research, selection, layout, etc. necessary to develop required design documents.
•    Coordinate proposals with project personnel in all disciplines and departments ranging in moderate to large or complex projects.
•    Collaborate with and manage entry- and mid-level employees for skills development, review work progress and provide direction as needed.
•    Utilize basic civil engineering software packages and computer-aided drafting software in accordance with industry codes and standards.
•    Collaborate with various discipline and subsidiary groups to provide expertise and support project needs.
•    Ability to understand civil construction methods and be able to clearly communicate the means and methods used to price an estimate.
•    Ability to make assumptions based on experience when detailed plans are not provided and front-end estimating is performed based on conceptual level designs. 
•    Ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs for earthwork, site surfacing, underground piping and drainage.
•    Identifying bid qualifications, risks, and assumptions along with quantities and pricing ensuring estimates and proposals are performed in accordance with company practices and standards.
•    Participate in estimate reviews and presentations to department heads, estimate managers and executive management.
•    Manage comparisons between self-perform estimates and subcontractor quotes.

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
•    At least 6 years' minimum relevant experience in Civil Engineering or Civil Construction Estimating function
•    Strong technical background in general Civil-Site Design, drainage systems, grading, utilities and roads/paving
•    Knowledgeable in multiple engineering software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D and storm drainage software
•    Licensed Professional Engineer with NCEES record preferable
•    Travel <20% expected
•    Can provide guidance to less experienced engineers and/or those without previous estimating experience
•    Works collaboratively across departments and involves others in solving problems.  Initiates meetings within own team, other disciplines or internal customers for clarity on work.
•    Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner.  Works well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives
•    Follows through on commitments made to internal and external customers and meets all required deadlines
•    Serves as project/discipline point of contact for external and internal customers
•    Able to manage multiple responsibilities with set expectations and meet deadlines
