We are adding several Architect Building Estimators to support our power and industrial design/construction teams. You will be part of our rapidly growing Industrial Design-Build Estimating Department which includes oversight of the estimating process for all pursuits which includes coordinating with our Engineering teams in the following disciplines: mechanical, electrical, I&C, structural, geotechnical, and civil to establish the complete estimate.
In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing and interpreting Contract Documents (specifications, drawings, and reference information) to create architectural drawings and documents, and support the estimating procurement team in developing detailed, comprehensive cost estimates for various projects at various stages throughout Kiewit's markets. You will interface with our Engineering teams, other estimating teams, Business Development, construction and our Supply Chain network. Kiewit Architectural & Engineering (KAE) delivers fully integrated design and engineering solutions for some of North America’s most complex and high visibility infrastructure, energy and building programs. Location
This position may be based out of our Lenexa, KS, office. We do offer relocation assistance to this location.
Responsibilities
• Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project and develop plan for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate. Use recognized engineering techniques and procedures to conduct estimates and adhere to standard company policy.
• Create subcontract bid package based on owner plans and specifications for quote, qualify vendors and review bid packages, synthesizing information together for the entire RFQ for the project, delivering a 30% schematic/design package.
• Oversee bid package for the building components, regularly reviewing quotes from vendors and corresponding to bidders. Act as an advisor with procurement. Knowledge of required key design deliverables by discipline and assure that the delivery schedule is met.
• Review and deliver architectural drawings and specifications for building-related lighting, power, HVAC, and plumbing systems that will be used in deliverable packages sent to sub-contractors for bidding.
• Know how to build the project (best practices, sequence, geographical challenges etc.).
• Consult with estimate team on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc. Schedule and prepare for estimate reviews.
• Complete technical bid analysis reviews during the bid period and determining practicality of submittals.
• Communicate critical issues and estimate assumptions up to the Manager as they arise to ensure everyone is on the same page for the reviews to eliminate late changes.
• Understand project past cost data for benchmarking to compare to estimates.
• Monitor Key Estimate Metrics – as directed by Sr. management to ensure that the estimate falls within the accepted boundaries and address outliers.
• Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new products, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry for estimating.

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering,
• Must have 3 to 10 years' experience in Architecture for building design and construction administration and/or subcontract management with strong comprehension and interaction in the estimating process. Industrial experience preferred.
• Understanding of Metal Building Structures for industrial projects and basic understanding of building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Must be able to deliver schematic designs, drawings in REVIT, and outline specifications for the building. Familiarity with building codes and requirements.
• Familiar and confident in understanding the workflow required to estimate, bid and construct buildings in an Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC), and Design-Build or other alternative design delivery methods.
• Experience with execution of all building project design phases from concept to construction with experience with construction means
• Experience with the value engineering process and low cost alternative recommendations as they relate to project budgets and associated construction costs.
• At least 3 years in and proficient in REVIT, Microsoft Office applications, Bluebeam and Navisworks.
• Exceptionally strong attention to detail, oral and written communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
