Our Industrial Market is experiencing exponential growth, and we are adding Architects to support building designs through all phases into construction for a diverse portfolio of projects.  Most of our work is Design/Build and Engineering/Procurement/Construction (EPC), where you will have the opportunity to see your designs come to life.  In this role, you will work within the Kiewit Architect and Engineering Building team, providing architectural design solutions for buildings across any of our markets.  You could have the opportunity to work on Hospitals, BioTech, Pharmaceutical, Data Centers, Power projects, Federal/Municipal, nuclear buildings, water/wastewater treatment facilities, Universities, manufacturing, transportation structures, and industrial process buildings.  You will work in a fast paced environment, coordinating and collaborating with multidisciplined design teams, and subcontractors, to successfully execute building estimates, conceptual designs, through construction documentation/administration.

Kiewit Architectural & Engineering (KAE) delivers fully integrated design and engineering solutions for some of North America’s most complex and high visibility infrastructure, energy and building programs. Location

This position may be based out of our Lenexa, KS, Lone Tree Colorado, or Houston, TX offices. Opportunities for flexible/hybrid work are available for the Lone Tree and Houston campuses only.  We do offer relocation to our Lenexa Kansas Industrial headquarters only.   

Responsibilities

  • For more senior level individuals (10 years and up) - may Run a team/project through all design phases, interface directly with customers and be a resource/mentor to other more junior Architects.
  • Responsible for completing life safety and code analysis by reviewing codes and standards, coordinating related design items with Authority Having Jurisdiction, and communicating findings with the team.
  • Perform architectural design for the buildings, balancing aesthetics, function, cost and functionality, and ensure the project complies with Kiewit standards while maintaining budget and schedule.   
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, security, and telecommunications to deliver integrated building designs.  Support, inform and advise the project team and client on the building design as it develops through the project life cycle.  
  • Assist in providing technical bid analysis reviews during the bid period and determining the practicality of submittals.
  • Provide alternative recommendations to the project team regarding project budgets and associated construction costs during the value engineering process.
  • Familiar and confident in understanding the workflow required to estimate, bid, and construct buildings in an Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) and Design-Build environment.
  • Perform architectural designs using REVIT, as well as perform checking and navigation in Navisworks for interferences.  Perform construction administration activities, and field work as required for project execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture from a NAAB accredited program is required.  Registered Architect is preferred or willingness to obtain when eligible.  For a more Senior individual with 12+ yeras, RA is required in order to lead projects.   
  • NCARB Certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of architectural design experience, working in a highly matrixed, multi-disciplined A/E firm or for a GC, performing functions as outlined above.  Will consider Architectural experience of all Building Types with the exception of residential and commercial.  
  • Experience with Data Centers, Server Rooms, Buildings with unique ventilation and cooling systems, pre-Engineered metal buildings, modular construction, Federal or military facilities, Aviation, Sports, and nuclear facilities, hospitals, or similiar industrial facilities is required.  Experience with execution of all building project design phases from concept to construction is required.  Must have experience coordinating building design with MEP and Structural design engineers, and managing the architectural design for the building to ensure compliance with company standards, while maintaining and budget and schedule.  
  • Experience with sequencing deliverables and producing waterfall schedules is required
  • Experience writing architectural specifications, supporting bid analysis reviews, performing budget and schedule reviews, and providing value engineering for the project.  
  • Must have at least 5 years experience in Revit, Microsoft Office applications, Bluebeam, and Navisworks.  Experience with scheduling/budget software like P6 is prefered
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and experience with estimating/quantity takeoffs for construction and developing procurement packages, bid review and vendor selection processes, is required.
  • Experience with Construction Administration activities and performing field work as required.  Prefer experience with EPC and Design/Build environments.  #LI-JB1
