Position Overview

We are an innovative team of engineers and designers that supports projects throughout the company. Our staff leads and collaborates with Kiewit’s module fabrication and construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence.  

This position focuses on the client technical sales support, front-end design technical and economic evaluations, and detailed engineering execution support in the markets which seek to produce various fuels from renewable feedstocks, such as renewable diesel (RD), sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), e-Methanol and more. The candidate must be experienced with diesel hydrotreating, and the process units for the pretreatment of feedstocks and associated utilities requirements.  They must be comfortable supporting process technologies outside of their base expertise, and evaluation of new technologies.

Location

This position is based out of our Energy Corridor office in Houston, Texas. Opportunities for flexible work are available. 

Responsibilities

•    Serves as technical resource and point of contact for external and internal customers.
•    Manages several different assignments simultaneously. Effective time and resource management.
•    Analysis and application of techniques/technologies (known and new) to improve business results, which includes technical risk evaluations.
•    Initiates meetings within own team, other disciplines, or internal customers to clearly convey work progress and plans.
•    Clearly conveys concepts verbally, during presentations, and in well-constructed, concise written documents.
•    Works collaboratively across all disciplines and departments, to progress complex issues, consistent with client and company goals.
•    Develops the technical abilities of engineers during the execution of projects; Provides guidance, leadership, and training.
•    Generates creative design solution strategies that optimize project capital or operating costs, equipment reliability, or project schedule. Possesses critical analytical skills and adept at effective decision-making.
•    Serve as Kiewit representative in external industry organizations and technical committees.
•    Contributes to the development of project pursuits by, for instance, supporting technical client interaction, rapid self-directed development of the Process man-hour estimating, report generation, etc.
•    Support of Project Management and Discipline Leads in the development and delivery of engineering deliverables during projects or proposals, with little to no supervision. Process Engineering scope expertise is a focus. Engineering scope includes all EPC phases, from conceptual engineering, through front-end and detailed engineering, and including field support of startup and performance testing efforts.  Examples of engineering deliverables: Design Basis documents (BEDD, Process Design Basis, Major Unit Design Basis), philosophy documents (e.g., Sparing; Isolation; Winterization; etc), process simulations, material balances, Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, critical equipment design criteria specification and preliminary sizing.
•    Performs complex calculations with applicable standards with little to no supervision. In addition, support of the Process Lead in execution of engineering calculations such as complex hydraulics, over-pressure load calculations, dynamic depressurization analyses, etc.
•    Leads the identification of changes to the scope of work during project execution.
•    Key engineering document reviews as needed for the project.  For instance: Design Bases, H&MB, PFDs, Layout / Plot Plans, P&IDs, HAZOP participation, vendor technical document review, etc.
•    Commitment to safety, ethics, and integrity.

Qualifications

•    Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
•    15 years minimum relevant experience in refining and/or petrochemical industries.
•    Experience in technical sales support, front-end design, detailed design, and field support of projects producing Renewable Diesel, Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Gasification, Syngas generation, Hydrogen, Ammonia, and/or derivatives.
•    Experience leading and developing a process engineering design team.
•    Proficient in the use of process simulators, such as HYSYS, Pro II and ProMax.
•    Clear interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills at all levels, both internally and externally.
•    Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
•    Travel < 10% expected.
