Material Lead

Position Overview

The Material Lead is responsible for overseeing all project materials management activities to ensure the timely procurement, delivery, tracking, storage, and distribution of materials required for successful project execution. This role partners closely with Procurement, Construction, Engineering, Suppliers, Expediting, Logistics, and Project Management teams to ensure material availability aligns with project schedules, budgets, and operational requirements.

The ideal candidate possesses strong experience in materials management, supply chain operations, inventory control, logistics coordination, and project execution within engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) environments.

Location

Currently we are looking for people to support our project in Houston, Texas.

Responsibilities

• Lead project materials management activities from project kickoff through closeout.
• Develop and maintain material management plans, workflows, and reporting processes.
• Collaborate with Procurement, Engineering, and Construction teams to identify material requirements and priorities.
• Monitor material status from requisition through delivery and installation.
• Coordinate with suppliers, expeditors, logistics providers, and site personnel to ensure material availability supports project schedules.
• Track material shortages, delays, and risk items and drive mitigation plans.
• Manage material receiving, storage, inventory control, preservation, and issuance processes.
• Oversee implementation and utilization of material management systems and tracking tools.
• Maintain accurate records of material commitments, receipts, inventory levels, transfers, and surplus materials.
• Analyze material status reports and communicate critical updates to project leadership.
• Support forecasting and planning efforts to optimize inventory levels while minimizing excess material.
• Resolve material discrepancies, damaged shipments, and supplier delivery issues.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, project requirements, safety standards, and quality expectations.
• Coordinate material closeout activities, including surplus disposition and final inventory reconciliation.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Construction Management, Engineering, Logistics, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• 7+ years of experience in materials management, supply chain, procurement, logistics, warehouse operations, or project controls.
• Experience supporting large-scale EPC, industrial, energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, or construction projects.
• Knowledge of material lifecycle management, inventory control, warehousing, logistics, and supplier coordination processes.
• Proficiency with ERP and materials management systems such as SAP, Oracle, or equivalent platforms.
