We are looking for an Assistant Human Resources Business Partner to join our team, with at least 3-5 years of experience in Human Resources, performing both tactical and strategic functions.  In this role, you will work directly with a highly experienced HRBP, in a strategic HR capacity, while participating in our HR developmental program.  We value HR professionals who are willing to roll up their sleeves, jump in and truly partner with the business. Under the direction of the HRBP, you will learn our engineering and construction operations, and have ample opportunity to execute initiatives related to developing and retaining a talented and engaged workforce. You will utilize and partner with our HR shared services teams for support in areas such as compensation, recruiting, leave management, etc.  You will also be involved in across the business unit, including support for annual business planning and performance review cycles.  We work hard, play hard, and are building the legacy of Kiewit across the globe. Experience supporting engineering, industrial or construction organizations is highly preferred as you will have an opportunity to work in any of our markets (Transportation, Mining, Water/Wastewater, Power, Oil/Gas/Petrochemical, Vertical Building Construction, Industrial Facilities or marine).

 

 

Travel is expected to support employees located at various offices in the US and Canada.

District Overview

HR Operations is an integral partner and service provider at Kiewit. In recent years, we have gone from decentralized HR groups to a unified, shared service team, with various HR Centers of Excellence. Our vision is to be a best-in-class international HR organization.

Location

This position is based out of Hamilton, Ontario Canada. This is a shared service center in a professional office setting.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of HR related strategies and ensure implementation and execution.
  • Maintain knowledge of progressive HR practices, trends, and data points to drive enhancements.
  • Serve as a change agent by influencing key stakeholders in support of organizational effectiveness.
  • Support the development of succession plans and skills gap analysis, ensuring that they are consistently reviewed and that effective actions are in place.
  • Ensure coaching, feedback and performance systems are in place to maximize workforce productivity.
  • Lead implementation of programs to drive development, employee engagement and retention.
  • Serve as advisor to leadership teams by providing insights, consultation, and support.
  • Act as a liaison with HR Shared Services to ensure the delivery of support to exceed internal client needs.
  • Provide feedback to influence the continuous improvement of HR services and processes.
  • Consult with managers on effective staff assignments and strategy.
  • Lead succession planning process by providing sound insight, support and identify additional learning and development trends based on future workforce needs.
  • Serve as liaison for high-risk terminations or separations of employees.
  • Support implementation of standard communications, processes, and reporting for HR annual cycle activities
  • Assist HRBP to drive execution of employee performance programs and expectations to maximize workforce productivity.
  • Support the execution of performance improvement plans and provide consultation as necessary.
  • Drive execution of leadership development programs and expectations to maximize workforce productivity
  • Monitor workforce productivity, retention and engagement for trends and changes that require intervention.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Human Resources or related field is required
  • Minimum of 3 years of HR generalist experience in Canda or U.S. market
  • Proficient with reporting and using excel
  • Must have experience performing similar duties as outlined above, with the ability to strike a balance between tactical support, strategic HR program execution and process innovation. 
  • Ability to communicate and influence individuals and groups to gain buy-in and acceptance of new ideas and approaches.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and build strong and productive personal relationships, with business acumen, analytical skills, and high attention to detail
  • Ability to travel overnight throughout North America up to 20% of the time.
  • Interest and ability to relocate for future growth opportunities in HR for career trajectory is highly desirable
