Position Overview

As a Senior CAD Engineer for Kiewit, you will provide strong technical knowledge of CAD software (Trimble Business Center) by completing and reviewing designs, identifying workflow related problems, and implementing process improvements. This person will document problems and resolutions, produce educational materials, present topics to project groups, plan project CAD operations, and lead a small CAD team on large-scale projects. The Senior CAD Engineer should possess strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills for both internal and external groups, uphold safety above all else, and motivation to get the job done right the first time.

District Overview

Kiewit's South-Central District is one of Kiewit's leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Projects you could be working on could include mass grading, drainage, paving, utility and more. Although most of our work is regionally based in the south-central region of the United States, we also pursue various projects stretching across the United States. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry as opposed to design.

Location

This person will work on a large highway project in Fort Worth, TX.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, mentors, and supports a small project team within CAD discipline.
  • Provides guidance, leadership, and training to less experienced engineers.
  • Initiates meetings within own team, other disciplines, and/or internal customers for work clarity.
  • Serves as a technical resource and point of contact for internal project teams and/or external parties.
  • Reviews design documents/blueprints from engineers and designers as needed for the project.
  • Completes quality checks of design and engineering on the project to ensure accuracy.
  • Performs complex calculations and applies standards correctly without supervision.
  • Completes reviews of vendor documents to ensure specifications and data sheet requirements are met.
  • Leads team to identify changes in scope of work during mid to large-sized projects.
  • Produces design changes as needed to stay within project budget and schedule.
  • Voices, develops, and implements process improvements when recognized.
  • Considers multiple solutions and makes good decisions based on strategic data analysis.
  • Applies various techniques and technologies to improve processes and business results.
  • Utilizes industry and company standards to design and engineer effectively.
  • Contributes to the development of client proposals and project cost estimates.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of relevant experience supporting heavy civil infrastructure construction projects.
  • Experience using Trimble Business Center, Bentley Micro Station, and/or Open Roads Designer.
  • Experience leading a small team to complete tasks/designs on a project.
  • Ability to work successfully both independently and while collaborating with internal/external parties.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and involve others when solving problems.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal presentations, successfully conveying messages and ideas.
