Position Overview

Kiewit Equipment Services is hiring a Machine Control Specialist to plan, install, and support safety and machine control systems across North American projects. The specialist will operate in dynamic field environments and independently support project equipment technology needs. This includes logistics, work planning, project communications, troubleshooting and problem solving within a fast paced timeline critical environment. This role closely collaborates with project, survey and equipment teams.

Fort Worth, TX (Greater than 50% travel required)

Responsibilities

•    Understand and comply with all federal, state, and company health, safety, and environmental requirements
•    Install, commission, and validate GNSS/UTS machine control and proximity detection systems on dozers, graders, excavators, compactors, and haul units
•    Configure/calibrate sensors, radios, base/rover setups, and in-cab displays; verify accuracy against site control
•    Exercise independent field judgment: sequence work, adapt mounts/harness routing, design practical radio/network layouts, and standardize solutions
•    Troubleshoot 12/24V DC, CAN bus, hydraulics interfaces, firmware/config issues, and communications links
•    Provide on-site and remote support; document fixes, close work orders, and train operators/foremen on best practices
•    Communicate with project management and equipment teams
•    Escalate appropriately and exercise stop-work authority when safety or control accuracy is at risk

Qualifications

•    2-4 years of education or practical experience with Trimble/Topcon/Leica (or similar) on heavy civil equipment
•    Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude: read schematics, terminate/crimp, route harnesses, mount sensors, light fabrication
•    Working knowledge of GNSS/RTK, radio/data links, base station setup, and total station workflows
•    Ability to read civil plans/surfaces/alignments and align models to production goals
•    Demonstrated independent decision-making: sets priorities, balances risk vs. schedule, and documents rationale
•    Valid driver’s license; comfortable working outdoors in variable conditions
•    Preferred: OEM/vendor certifications (e.g., Trimble Earthworks, Topcon 3D-MC), basic scripting/reporting, welding/fab, heavy equipment background

  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and climb on/around machines while wearing required PPE.
