Position Overview
The Field HR Specialist is responsible for aligning HR strategies with the business objectives at a project location. This role will serve as a business partner to management and leadership teams on human resource related issues.The Field HR Specialist will assess and anticipate HR-related needs and will then partner and proactivelycommunicate with our HR support teams. This individual will also work closely with our safety, payroll and financial services teams and will demonstrate passion to meet and exceed construction HR needs and the driven challenges they represent.
District Overview
Kiewit Energy Canada is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. We are a major industrial contractor that work on projects that involve construction of oil & gas facilities such as oilsands processing, including steam–assisted gravity drainage facilities, upgrading & refining, midstream facilities, power & co-generation, terminal projects (ex. LNG, LPG, etc.), and major mine developments. We also have a Modular Yard facility in Edmonton, Alberta. Our engineering branch is a leading-edge division that offers innovative engineering services for our current projects and new pursuits in Canada. Our design services group are based in Calgary and Houston offering expertise in process, piping, mechanical, electrical and civil/structural disciplines.
Location
The field location for this role is in Squamish, British Columbia. It is a 2 week on 1 week off rotation with camp accomodations. After this assignment, the next project could be anywhere in Canada. The ability to travel and relocate as-needed is key for this role. Responsibilities
- Human Resources Planning and Management on the Project
- Drive the development of HR related strategies and ensure implementation and execution.
- Maintain knowledge of progressive HR practices, trends, and data points to drive enhancements.
- Serve as a change agent by influencing key stakeholders in support of organizational effectiveness.
- Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with the HR support teams to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
- Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation, including outreach, onsite compliance, etc.
- Workforce Planning and Talent Management
- Develop succession plans and skill gap analysis, ensuring that they are consistently reviewed and that effective actions are taken.
- Ensure coaching, feedback and performance systems are in place to maximize workforce productivity.
- Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
- Work closely with Craft and Staff HR support teams to develop contract terms for new hires, as well as with HR Business Partner’s for internal transfers.
- Serve as point of contact for labor/union relations issues.
- Program Execution and Employee Support
- Serve as an Advisor to project leadership teams by providing insight, consultation, and support.
- Act as a liaison with HR support teams to ensure the delivery and exceed internal client needs.
Provide feedback to influence the continuous improvement of HR services and processes.
Project HR Task Overview:
Onboarding & Orientation
- New hire paperwork
- HR Orientation – both staff and craft
- Onboarding staff employees
- D&A and background reviews
- Partner with Craft Services on creating craft onboarding and support
Site Staffing & Scheduling
- Resource Planner planning and reporting (Partner with Business Management group)
- NOA's – Partner with Southport to ensure timely and complete NOA’s
- Org Management support
- Staff and craft rotations
- Separations management
- Retention strategy and support
Employee & Labor Relations
- Support investigations as needed
- Support partnership with CLAC
- Support payroll questions as needed for craft and staff
Employee Development & Performance
- Succession planning
- Project development standards implementation and management
- Engineer rotation schedule
- Support RTF execution and education
- Support annual Talent Reviews
- PIP / performance issues with employees

Qualifications
- Strong preference for candidates with relevant construction experience for large commercial/industrial projects.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in Human Resources
- Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and provincial employment laws.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related discipline, or combined combination of schooling and relevant experience
- Ability to communicate and influence individuals and groups to gain buy-in and acceptance of new ideas and approaches.
- Proven ability to take initiative and build strong and productive work relationships.
- Sound business acumen and analytical skills.
- Ability to travel and relocate on an as-needed basis
- Ability to work site hours
