Position Overview

Reporting to the Construction Manager, The tunnel plant manager is responsible for purchase, lease, maintenance, safety, and repair of project equipment for all tunneling topics related to CCW south works. It includes shaft sinking, drill and blast, a 3.3km bored tunnel and interfaces with marine works. The bored tunnel will be done by using a slurry TBM. The main equipment will be a slurry TBM, a STP, several MSVs, a slurry transportation system, a grouting plant, a water treatment plant, a tower crane, several mobile equipment (mobile cranes, etc.), a workshop, a warehouse, ventilation, etc.

Location

The position will be based on our project in Darlington, ON. The successful candidate will be local to Darlington, Oshawa or surrounding areas, or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up, operating and maintaining critical construction equipment, including the tunnel boring machine, slurry treatment plant, multi service vehicles, slurry transportation system, ventilation systems, water treatment systems, grout plant, tower crane, mobile equipment, and maintenance.
  • Coordinate spare parts order and the relevant warehouse stock.
  • Set up, monitor and organize maintenance reports for all critical equipment.
  • Disc cutters maintenance and refurbishments.
  • Provide options, availability, and pricing for plant equipment.
  • Manage the plant team including but not limited to mechanical and electrical team.
  • Manage all specialized subcontractors linked to the scope such as TBM supplier, STP supplier, etc.
  • Support the planning and implementation of all equipment assembly, mobilization, operation, maintenance and disassembly.
  • Monitor equipment utilization via equipment report and budgeted hours report.
  • Management of rates & costs for contract work equipment account. Includes setting rates, setting budgeted hours, monitoring costs, etc.
  • Responsible – in close coordination with the procurement department - for procurement process of large assets such as plant equipment, and concrete equipment.
  • Monitor rented equipment.
  • Review and approve all equipment requests, leases, and disposals.
  • Ensure all people, equipment, and processes are working in a safe manner meeting all local laws and regulations.
  • Assist the environmental department in obtaining and compliance with all environmental permits, laws, and company policies.
  • Develop and ensure consistency of plant processes and best practices throughout the scope.
  • Keep management apprised of costs, schedule, and specific activities affecting them.
  • Support the construction team in all plant needs.
  • Any other duties as reasonably assigned as part of the scope.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Mechanics/Engineering
  • Minimum of 10-15 years' experience in similar role or as a Tunnel Boring Machine and Equipment Manager/Superintendent
  • Experience on a minimum of 2 or 3 tunnel projects
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance on at least 1 project using the type of pressurized face Tunnel Boring Machine being proposed for the work (slurry machine)
  • Experience in Microsoft Office and relevant spare parts management software
  • Strong critical thinking skills and communication skills. #LI-IS1

Base Compensation: $140,000/yr - $170,000/yr
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
