Position Overview


Are you looking for an opportunity to be a part of a new, emerging nuclear market? We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Field Engineer - Balance of Plant (BOP) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nuclear construction and will be responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and operation of auxiliary systems that support the main power generation unit.

Location

The position will be based on our project in Darlington, ON. The successful candidate will be local to Darlington, Oshawa or surrounding areas, or willing to relocate

Responsibilities

  • Field Support: Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations.
  • Coordination: Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite. Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure seamless integration of BOP components with main plant operations.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all work complies with safety standards, regulations, and project specifications.
  • Problem Solving: Address and resolve issues that arise during construction or operation of BOP systems promptly and effectively.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all activities, including maintenance logs, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct regular site safety inspections to ensure compliance with safety protocols and standards. Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in company-wide initiatives aimed at overall continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Project Analysis: Assist in reviewing and analyzing historical data relative to the project, incorporating various productions and costs appropriate in preparation of a bid.
  • Plan Review: Complete a plan and specification review for an assigned project, assessing the risk areas and bringing them to the attention of the Senior Estimator.
  • Material Takeoffs: Complete material and quantity takeoffs according to bid documents. Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.
  • Drawing Interpretation: Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision.
  • Quantity Calculations: Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining the percentage of completed/installed materials and work.
  • Work Plans: Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages.
  • Field Surveying: Assist in field surveying and work layout support including elevation, control points, and compilation of as-built data.
  • Labor Timesheets: Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming daily labor timesheets.
  • Engineering Support: Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations. Assist Engineers to gather and prepare data for submittal or transmittal to the customer, vendors, subcontractors, governmental agencies, and internal use.
  • Procurement: Assist in the preparation of purchase orders and subcontracts, performing minor solicitations and purchasing as requested.
  • Schedule Maintenance: Assist in schedule maintenance and performing updates as directed by others.
  • Cost Management: Assist with entering data into the job cost system and participate in reviewing cost reports with jobsite management.
  • Change Orders: Assist in generating change orders and as-built data to be reviewed by the Project Manager.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in field engineering, with a preference for experience in nuclear construction.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using engineering software and tools, strong understanding of BOP systems and their integration with main power units.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with various stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in nuclear construction and safety are preferred.
  • Travel: Ability to travel and relocate as needed.
  • Site Access: Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
  • Motivation: Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative.
  • Ethics: Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity.
