Craft Instructor - Electrical

Position Overview

Kiewit is seeking an experienced electrical craft professional to join the DFW Training Center as a Craft Instructor - Electrical.

This is a hands-on instructional role for someone with substantial field experience who understands how electrical work is planned, interpreted, built, checked and corrected - and who can translate that experience into effective learning for developing craft employees.

The strongest candidates will combine broad industrial electrical construction experience with a genuine interest in developing the next generation of electrical craft professionals. Instructors work directly with learners through classroom instruction, demonstrations and hands-on labs, using real-world experience to explain both how the work is performed and why it is done that way.

The Instructor's electrical knowledge should extend well beyond the material contained in any single course. We are looking for craft professionals who can answer practical field questions, demonstrate work credibly, recognize common problems and use years of experience to help others develop.

This role reports to the DFW Training Center Program Manager and works closely with peer Instructors and other Training Center team members.

The successful candidate is expected to arrive with substantial electrical craft knowledge and a functional foundation in teaching, coaching and communication. Kiewit and the DFW Training Center will support continued development in facilitation, lesson planning, public speaking, instructional methods, training systems, administrative tools and Kiewit's ways of doing business. As the Training Center and its programs grow, opportunities may develop for Instructors to broaden their technical, instructional and leadership contributions within Kiewit.

Location

This position is based at the DFW Training Center and is expected to work onsite. During active training cohorts, learner instruction generally runs from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Instructor preparation begins before learners arrive, and closeout may continue after instruction ends as needed. Training cycles also include dedicated time between cohorts for learner-record closeout, lab reset, material readiness, instructional preparation and continuous improvement. Occasional needs may arise outside the normal instructional schedule. The role is fundamentally DFW-based with occasional travel as business needs require.

Responsibilities

Hands-On Work Environment

This is an active, hands-on instructional position - not primarily a classroom or presentation role. Instructors regularly demonstrate and participate in electrical training using construction tools, materials, raceway systems, cable and electrical mockups. Depending on the activity, this may include layout, measuring, cutting, bending, assembly, installation, material handling and other practical electrical construction tasks.

What You'll Do

•  Deliver electrical craft training through classroom instruction, demonstrations and hands-on labs.
  
  
•  Translate field experience into practical instruction that helps learners understand how electrical work is planned, sequenced and performed.
  
  
•  Personally demonstrate electrical construction activities using appropriate tools, materials and methods
  
  
•  Use field examples and lessons learned to explain installation challenges, common mistakes, sequencing issues, safety concerns and quality expectations.
  
  
•  Observe learner performance, identify where understanding is breaking down and adjust the instructional approach when needed.
  
  
•  Provide individual coaching while maintaining appropriate progress for the overall class.
  
  
•  Administer quizzes, labs and other assessments and make sound professional judgments about learner knowledge, practical performance and readiness.
  
  
•  Provide candid feedback and accurately document learner strengths, development needs and performance concerns.
  
  
•  Model and enforce Kiewit safety and quality expectations throughout training and immediately intervene when unsafe behavior or deficient work is observed.
  
  
•  Help learners develop practical jobsite habits including housekeeping, material handling, tool readiness, work sequencing, communication and supporting the needs of a crew.
  
  
•  Maintain consistency in required training content while adapting explanations, examples and demonstrations to learner needs.
  
  
•  Prepare for upcoming cohorts by completing records, resetting labs, confirming materials and tools, and preparing instructional activities.
  
  
•  Share knowledge and resources with other Instructors and help strengthen the overall Training Center team.
  
  
•  Continue developing your own technical and instructional capability and use the expertise of other team members when appropriate.

Qualifications

What You Bring

•  Substantial relevant electrical construction experience with Journeyman-level depth and practical capability.
  
  
•  Industrial electrical construction experience strongly preferred, including experience working from drawings and specifications and adapting installation methods to different project requirements and field conditions.
  
  
•  Journeyman Electrician highly preferred. Candidates with substantial equivalent electrical field experience may also be considered.
  
  
•  Approximately five years of meaningful electrical experience is a useful reference point; breadth, depth and relevance matter more than years alone.
  
  
•  Broad knowledge of how electrical work is planned, sequenced, installed, inspected, corrected and supported in the field.
  
  
•  Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications and other construction information.
  
  
•  Electrical breadth sufficient to independently teach assigned curriculum, respond credibly to practical field questions and recognize when an unusual condition requires additional technical input.
  
  
•  Demonstrated ability to teach, coach, mentor or develop less-experienced craft employees. Teaching capability may come from formal instruction, apprenticeship involvement, field mentoring, foreman/lead responsibilities or other practical experience developing people.
  
  
•  Prior formal Instructor or training experience is preferred, but not required.
  
  
•  Foreman, lead-person or comparable field-leadership experience is preferred, particularly experience developing craft employees and leading safety and quality in the field.
  
  
•  Strong safety and quality judgment; patience; learner awareness; communication, listening, teamwork and professional judgment.
  
  
•  Ability to recognize the limits of personal experience and use the expertise of others appropriately.
  
  
•  Ability and willingness to learn the technical and administrative systems needed to support instruction, assessments and learner records.
