Position Overview

The Kiewit Power Engineering Group is seeking several mid-to-senior level Mechanical Process Engineers to join our growing Calgary team!

 

The ideal candidates will play a crucial role in the design, procurement, and construction of mechanical systems and equipment used in power plants and other industrial facilities. In this role, you will use your expertise to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of power generation facilities, contributing to the production of sustainable and cost-effective energy.

 

Depending on experience, the position may operate at a Mid-Level or Senior level, with increasing responsibility for technical leadership, project ownership, and team mentorship.

We are a highly performing team of engineers and designers that develop projects through the project life cycle engaging in exciting projects throughout North America. Our staff leads the power markets engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit’s construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence. 

Location

This position is based out of Calgary, Alberta.

Responsibilities

•    Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, industry codes, and standards to projects.
•    Perform engineering designs including analysis, calculations, research, and equipment selection.
•    Develop mechanical piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for facility systems including steam cycles, boiler feed, condensate, water treatment, flue gas, hydrogen, fuel handling, heat transfer systems, carbon dioxide, and utility systems.
•    Prepare sizing calculations and specifications for major equipment including, but not limited to, boilers, condensers, cooling towers, tanks, blowers, and pumps.
•    Prepare mechanical engineering designs, equipment lists, general arrangements, auxiliary power demands, and process flow diagrams (PFDs).
•    Review and check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
•    Prepare requisite mechanical documentation for construction.
•    Coordinate with drafters, designers, and engineers.
•    Balance multiple engineering tasks concurrently while maintaining quality and schedule.

 

Mid-Level Mechanical Process Engineer
•    Perform intermediate complexity engineering work with limited supervision.
•    Contribute to project deliverables and support execution of engineering packages.
•    Assist in developing schedules, work assignments, and staffing plans.
•    Collaborate across disciplines and support team coordination.
•    Demonstrate ownership of assigned tasks and deliverables.

 

Senior Mechanical Process Engineer
•    Perform and/or lead complex engineering efforts and provide technical oversight.
•    Review and approve key deliverables and ensure technical quality.
•    Lead development of schedules, work assignments, and resource planning.
•    Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.
•    Coordinate across disciplines and interface with project stakeholders.
•    Support project execution strategy within EPC delivery models.
•    Take accountability for deliverables, budget, and schedule performance within assigned scope.

Qualifications

•    A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
•    P. Eng designation is highly preferred but not required.
•    A minimum of 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering and design, preferably within power industry, electrical utilities, or industrial markets
•    Strong work ethic and commitment to quality.
•    Demonstrated integrity and ethical standards.
•    Passion for safety and maintaining a zero-incident culture.
•    Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
•    Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
•    Strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.
